Angel Locsin shares her birthday with Payatas community

Angel Locsin spent four hours in Payatas last April 20 to celebrate her 23rd birthday, although her actual birthday falls on April 23. The star of Lobo is very happy to share her blessings with the people whom she considers her neighbors.
In an interview with Angel during her birthday press conference yesterday, April 27, she explained why she chose Payatas residents as the beneficiaries of her gift-giving event.
"Taga-Commonwealth [Avenue] kasi ako, so nakikita mo siya... Every birthday ko talaga, gumagawa ako ng way para i-share ang blessings ko. Naisip ko, wala nang mas malapit na may problema talaga kaya imbes na pumunta pa akong Quezon province or Zambales, dun na ako sa pinakamalapit," Angel said.
According to the young actress, 600 kids were present during the event. Angel opted to use a disguise—she made herself darker and wore a camisa chino, jogging pants and slippers. She even made herself look fatter by placing cloth near her tummy area.
"Nag-pack kami dun ng mga groceries, mga bigas... Bitbit ko yung mga karton, may dala akong ballpen, pambukas ng mga karton. Namigay kami ng mga bags para sa mga bata."
But why did she use a disguise? "Para makita ko talaga kung an'ong nangyayari. Kasi pagdating mo dun, special treatment," she replied.
How did she feel after the event?
"Masaya kahit na pawis-pawis ka na. May bata dun, lalapit sa 'yo at pupunasan kasi sabi niya, pawis na pawis na raw ako. Yayakapin ka at sasabihin, ‘Thank you po.'"
Despite her disguise, people were able to recognize her, prompting them to bring out their cameras to ask for her photo. There were five booths set up in Payatas, one each for paper-doll making, origami, face painting, button making, and clay molding. Angel narrates that some of the kids learned how to make paper birds and gave them to her as a sign of their gratitude.
FUTURE PROJECTS. Her TV show Lobo will run until July. Angel is also slated to do a movie with Piolo Pascual under Star Cinema. It will be directed by Rory Quintos and will require Angel to do some action scenes. It doesn't have a working title yet but they plan to shoot the film for two weeks in the province and two weeks abroad.
As for her sportswear line, Active Angel, she says that she already has eight stalls in various department stores.
ON LUIS MANZANO. Angel also took this opportunity to talk about her growing bond with Luis Manzano.
"We're very close, nase-share ko sa kanya ang mga problem ko and, sa tingin ko, ganun din siya sa akin," says Angel.
Are they exclusively dating? "Hindi ko rin po masasabi kasi wala pong time. Pero ako po, wala po akong in-entertain na iba."
Is she the only person that Luis is dating? "Dapat!"
She also reminisced the three-day Bangkok trip that she and Luis had during the Holy Week. Angel says her favorite activity there was shopping in Platinum Mall.
"Sinurprise niya ako actually. Sinabi ko sa kanya na naubusan na ako ng tickets, hindi ako nakapagpa-reserve... Nilibre niya ako sa airplane fare, pero yung sa hotel, ako na yung nagbayad. Pero magkaiba kami ng kuwarto," Angel clarified.
ASAP DANCE NUMBER. In the past, Angel did not do dance numbers for GMA-7's SOP but when she appeared in the April 20 episode of ABS-CBN's ASAP ‘08, she performed the salsa with a dance instructor and with Luis Manzano. Why did she agree to do a dance number? "Birthday ko, e," she simply said.
"Dati kasi [sa GMA-7] pinapakanta nila ako. Saka sa sked ko rin, wala akong time mag-rehearse. For ASAP, binigyan nila ako ng two hours to rehearse. Gusto ko ngang pasalamatan sina Georcelle [Dapat] ng G-Force kasi sila'ng ang nagpapasayaw sa akin. Nag-rehearse ako last Thursday from 10 pm to 12 midnight, 'tapos kinabukasan may taping ako for a commercial. Wala akong time para mag-rehearse with them kaya nanood na lang ako sa video na kuha ng PA [production assistant] ko.
"Hindi naman po ako dancer, pero gusto ko lang gawin yun para may ma-offer naman akong bago sa mga viewers."
