Sa presscon ng launching ng Boy Abunda For All Sexes ng Aficionado German Perfume kahapon, June 25, sa SM San Lazaro, Manila, naitanong kay Boy Abunda ang tunay na estado ng relasyon ng kaibigan at talent niya na si Gretchen Barretto sa live-in partner nito na si Tonyboy Cojuangco. Nabalita kasi na naghiwalay ang dalawa pagkatapos ng ‘credit card' incident kamakailan.
"Ang totoo, si Dominique [solong anak ni Gretchen kay Tony Boy] ay ilang taon na lamang at mag-aaral na sa abroad. I'll put it straight, ‘no. Yung sinasabi na mag-a-abroad si Gretchen at si Tonyboy ay gusto talaga nila, ‘pag halimbawa, nag-boarding school na or nag-aral na sa abroad si Dominique, gusto nila ay kasama sila ng anak. Doon nanggaling yung usaping mag-abroad. Pero hindi po ngayon.
"Pero plano talaga nila ang mag-abroad. One or two years, the girl will be studying somewhere at balak talaga ni Gretchen at Tony na mangibang bansa kasama si Dominique.
"Nasa Manila ngayon si Gretchen. Hindi totoong magkahiwalay sila ni Tony Boy. Magkasama sila sa bahay. She is in Manila."
Bakit wala si Gretchen sa party ng kaibigan niyang si Ruffa Gutierrez last Saturday, June 21?
"Hindi ko masasagot yun. Hindi ko alam. Ah, I think there's a good reason. Nag-uusap 'yan. Kanina magkausap yung dalawa.
"Just before we start this show kanina, magkausap yung dalawa. Kagabi magkausap sila. Palagay ko si Gretchen, hindi naninisi ng kung sinuman. Kaya tinitumbok ko na ang balita kung totoo o hindi."
Sinadya raw ni Gretchen ang hindi pagpunta sa party ni Ruffa?
"Hindi ko alam. Wala akong dahilan na puwede kong ibigay. Pero kung ang implikasyon ay merong problema, wala. They're talking."
BOY SAYS IT'S TRUE! Dahil walang gustong magsalita either kina Ruffa or Gretchen sa tunay at buong nangyari sa dinner nila sa Dusit Hotel kasama sina Pops Fernandez at isang non-showbiz girl na nagngangalang Josie (click here for story), na unang lumabas dito sa PEP, si Boy ang nagbigay-linaw tungkol dito. Tinanong kay Boy kung totoong nagkasamaan ng loob ang magkaibigan.
"Wala akong alam na nagkasamaan ng loob. Alam ko yung lumabas sa diyaryo. Ang isyu dito, hindi yung kung bakit lumabas ang balita, ang isyu dito ay kung totoo ba? Totoo ba ang nangyari sa isang restaurant?
"Totoo bang hindi in-honor [ang credit card ni Gretchen]? Totoo po yun. Totoo po yun na nangyari sa isang restaurant. Totoong sinubukan po ng cashier. Ilang beses sinubukang i-swipe ang card, hindi po nag-work. Totoo, pero hindi ang dahilan ay pinutol. May problema ang magnet nung machine.
"Totoo na dumating si Tonyboy. Tinawagan agad ni Gretchen. Napakadisenteng tao ni Tonyboy. In about two to three minutes, he was there to solve the problem."
Totoo rin ba na nagalit si Tonyboy kay Gretchen dahil ikinumpara siya sa asawa ni Ruffa na si Yilmaz Bektas?
"Ah, ‘yan ang hindi ko alam na departamento," sagot ni Boy. "Pero totoong medyo nagalit si Tonyboy o sumama ang loob dahil una, puwede namang magdala si Gretchen ng cash. Puwedeng magdala ng ibang card.
"Sa aking paningin naman, malapit lang ang bahay nila. Puwede siyang magpakuha ng pera. Pero na-realize ni Gretchen na kahit pag-isipan si Tonyboy ni Gretchen na ipinaputol ang card, it was not fair to Tonyboy because Tonyboy will never do it.
"Wala sa karakter ni Tonyboy na gawin ang ibinibintang sa kanya. So, hindi malayo na nagalit talaga si Tonyboy dahil sa pinag-isipan siya—huwag na nating isali ang ibang tao—ni Gretchen, na ipinaputol ang card. Pero naayos yun.
"Nagkagalit ba sila doon? Nagpalitan ba sila ng nga salita? Possible! Because it was a very tense situation but it is true. Pero ang hindi totoo, yung ipinaputol. Hindi totoo ‘yan, Hindi totoong magkahiwalay. Magkasama sila as we talk. Magkasama sila sa bahay."
"WE OWN THE BANK." Totoo rin ba na sinabi ni Gretchen ang linyang "That cannot be. We own the bank!"
"I will not confirm that, I will not deny that because I don't know. Hindi ko alam kung sinabi niya yun," sagot ni Boy.
