Hello Brad peet. thanks sa mga questions mo sana masagot ni purple yan. pero kung ako ang tatanungin mo about my nephew, nagsuffer siya sa kanyang sakit. walang chemo treatment na binigay sa kanya, walang transplant. maybe because nakita ng mga nasa PGH na we were not able to shoulder the expenses na dapat ibigay sa nephew namin for his betterment.

If you get chemo through IV infusion, do you have the implanted vascular access device(I call it PORT... nakita ko sa isang bata.. parang PORT sa computer)? Do you feel the pain as soon as the liquid passes into the "port"? Is there a way to manage the the pain? Siguro, you have to stay clear from people na may ubo, sipon, at kung anu pang contagious disease, ano? Do you go around with surgical mask, specially going in and out of the hospital? i am presently undergoing chmotheraputic treatments (yes, two types of drugs) for my ALL. and it's hell. isipin nyo yung para kayong sinasaksak na pinapaso na binabarena, every 21 days. it takesa a couple more days to recover from the pain, and life isnt the same anymore, since i cant really enjoy eating a lot, or go out. because i get sick easily. early stage pa lang and we're expecting to send all bad blood cells into remission in a year or so.

thanks heavens i still have my hair. haha! but it's horrible whenever i need to throw up, or how the stairs or tiled floors seem to swirl, at grabe super antok lagi. i feel sorry for any young kid who has to suffer thsi disease and go through chemo, because its just terrible ;-(

i may not be a cancer survivor, but i can give some side effects of chemotherapy.

When a patient is being treated w/ chemotherapeutic drugs, the most common adverse reaction is bone marrow suppression. Prone sila sa infection, since yung mga blood cells na dapat ay nag ffight sa mga foreign objects sa katawan natin ay low since yun ngang bone marrow kung saan blood cells are produced ay suppressed.

maaari din na ang patient ay mawalan ng gana kumain. side effects din kasi ang nausea and vomiting.

may mga nagcchemotherapy din na nagssuffer sa alopecia, or sa tagalog, ay nalalagas ang buhok.

To start of, leukemia is a malignant neoplasm of blood forming organs. It is characterized by an abnormal overproduction of immature forms of any of the leukocytes. There is an interference with normal blood prodction resulting in decreased red blood cells and decreased platelets.

Leukemia is treated with antineoplastic drugs. These drugs inhibit or prevent the growth and development of malignant cells.

What causes leukemia? Answer: The exact etiology of leukemia is unknown but there are several identified precipitating factors which include the following:
Genetic abnormalities, ionizing radiation, viral infections and exposure to certain chemicals or drugs.

It was our fault na naging tanga kami and pagdating sa situation ng aplastic anemia at ng pagpapatreat sa hospital. We didn't either fight for the result of the test, at mga karapatan ng isang paslit upang makasurvive. I should say that it happened because of our ignorance, negligence, and poverty.

Bard peet as far as I remembered walang inadvise sa amin ang mga doctor dun na iuwi na lamang ang bata. My mother was the one decided na yung routine ng paglalagay ng dugo ay gawin na lamang sa probinsya kasi hopeless narin kami that time. Kulang ang mga staff sa PGH that time dahil December yun mostly nakabakasyon na ang mga staff. Yung specialist naman ay once a week lang nandun.. so nagdedepeede lang kami sa mga nurses.

Hindi rin nagbigay ng recommendation kung kailangan ng transplant. My Good Lord dumating kami sa PGH ng sobrang dungis ang dala dala namin ay plastic bag na may iilan damit ng bata. Ang narinig ko sa doctor ay bumili ng ganitong medicines, mgkaroon ng regular blood transfusions, ganun lang... Pati nga ang result ng bone marrow test ay hindi namin nakita. We were so naive and ignorant that time.

Ano ang laman ng botelya, anong klaseng pesticide? Bakit may nakatabing pesticide sa botelya. Nag-iimbak pa ba ang ibang mga tao roon, ng pesticide within reach ng mga bata? Gumagamit ba ng pesticide sa lugar nyo, na maaaring mag permeate sa ground water ?

As for Kiko Magalona, malaki ang pamilya niya at taga Maynila sila. Siguro ay nag i schedule na sila ngayon, kung papaano magsasalit-salit sa paghatid sundo, at pag accompany kay Kiko sa ospital. Ang magiging primary caregiver siguro ay si Pia. I hope they think of the welfare of Pia, also. Let her rest too, do alternate duties with other family members or friends. May mga naitabing savings siguro, na magagamit sa treatment ng leukemia niya. Pini prepare na rin siguro ang mga anak nya on what to expect. Ngayon alam ko na kung ano ang naging caused ng aplastic anemia. For sure sa mag pesticides galing yun kung bakit nagkaroon ang nephew ko.. dahil mismo siya inamin nya na naglalaro siya ng mga pesticides at kung ano ano pang botelya na backyard....

dugongrakista, palagay ko naman walang masama kung ma-educate natin ang mga sarili natin sa mga cause and effects. May kapupulutan tayo ng leksyon sa experience ng iba. Hindi naman ibig sabihin noon ay we care less for the person who is ill. Hindi naman siguro magagalit ang Diyos, kung hindi lang pagdarasal ang aatupagin natin, kung di ang magkaroon ng dagdag na kaalaman sa mga pangyayari. Baka naman, ang ibang sanhi (cause), ay nasa control natin, tulad ng life-style choices (smoking), or environment (air pollution or pollution of ground water). Baka naman sinasabi rin ng Diyos, na tayong mga Pinoy, masyado na tayong COMPLACENT, and we let others run over us, polluting the very air we breath, and contaminate our ground water. Baka lang naman.

My family was there in front of our nephew.wala talagang dugo sa mga sugat nya at sa fractured nya. On our part naging pabaya din kami kasi we should have given him a special treatment and care. But what do you expect nasa barrio kami nakatira. Yes I stil remembered na may mga botelya ng pesticides sa aming bakuran that time at kapag tinatanong siya ng nanay nya kung nilalaro nya ang mga botelya ay OO daw... Yung tungkol sa PGH. libre naman except yung blood transfusions at saka yung ibang mediciens. Nasa Charity ward. Hirap ang family ko sa pagbabantay tahttime kasi uuwi pa ng probinsya weekly... You know it was really hard that time....walang kailala sa Manila. all you could do is depend on you survival instinct.

How To Help Someone With Cancer, from eHowdotcom site:
1. Lighten a cancer patient's burden by just being there.
2. Avoid the "everything will be all right" attitude. He understands that everything may not turn out all right and false cheeriness is not what is needed.
5. Be a patient advocate, IF HE SO DESIRES. Do research about the cancer, scout out cancer specialists, learn everything there is to know about the type of cancer he has and its treatments.

Hello Brad Peet, kinilabutan ako sa pagtugon mo at naiiyak din same time.. Unfortunately, my nephew was died last 1989... nakarecover siya for a month lang yata then nagbalik ulit yung sakit. Pinaiinom namin siya ng prednison (steroid ) at ibang medicines para sa dugo at sa resistensya na din nya. lagi siyang pale and weak. hindi makatakbo dahil madaling mapagod. One time ayaw na niyang magpadala sa PGH para sa dugo at sabi nya magaling na daw siya. kasi yung pamangkin ko nung siya ay 5 years old na diagnosed siya ng may aplastic anemia. may lumalabas na dugo sa gums nya, may pasa ang katawan kapag nadiinan sa paghawak. nanghihina siya at laging nagkukulay violet siya. Imagine 5 years old nagkaroon ng ganun. DInala namin siya sa PGH for 3 months siya dun kasi laging pinapalitan ng blood. Doon na rin siya nag pasko last 1988. Wala kaming alam na paraan. Ang hirap ng buhay nun at pati na rin ang technology was very low. Until inuwi namin sa province yung bata kasi kami angh nasasaktan kapag nakikita namin ang doctor na may malaking syringe to inject it sa loob ng bone marrow. kahit tulog ang bata because of pampatulog ay napapangiwi siya.. maybe because nararamdaman nya ang bawat tusok ng napakalaking heringgilya na yun sa kanya. That was the hardest time na naranasan nya, namin na nakakakita ng bawat sakit na hindi naman dapat maramdaman pa ng isang 5 years old....

Having leukemia is not the end of your life, mabuti at na-detect kaagad ang kay Francis at it takes time ang healing process kasi iba-iba rin naman ang cause niyan at iba rin ang effect sa body ng tao, sometimes dumadaan sa maraming proseso, chemo or whatever pero meron din chance na mawala and then babalik uli, hopefully he will be strong enough mentally, physically and emotionally as well as his family. sometimes sa mga trials na ganito dito lang nagiging malapit ang tao sa Diyos but anyway I hope na sana kayanin nya lahat ng ito.
