Last June 14, the public was introduced to the second batch of Pinoy Dream Academy scholars who would be trained under some of the top music teachers of the country. Earlier tonight, September 14, viewers judged whom they believed to be the most improved scholar for PDA Season 2.
During a rousing finale night at the Cuneta Astrodome, the Pride of Sultan Kudarat Laarni Lozada was announced the winner of the reality singing competition of ABS-CBN. PDA Season 2 hosts Toni Gonzaga, Billy Crawford, and Nikki Gil were present at the Grand Dream Night to award the prizes to the successor of Yeng Constantino, the winner of PDA Season 1.
This decision is similar to the prediction of former scholars Chivas Malunda, Apple Abarquez, Sheng Belmonte, Bea Muñoz, and Christian Alvear during their interview with Billy Crawford on the show Uberture. Majority of the former Academians named Laarni Losala (her real name) as the singer who should take home the title of Grand Star Dreamer. They also preferred Bugoy Drilon to bag the second place, while Van Pojas should be in third place.
For the past few months, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, the headmaster of the Academy, has been honing the singing skills of the 16 PDA Season 2 scholars. The other teachers were Joey Reyes (Media Performance Mentor) and Kitchy Molina (Overall Voice Mentor). With the conclusion of PDA Season 2, this allows Voice Mentor Monet Silvestre to leave the Academy as well since he has been living inside the closely monitored house since June this year.
When the voting ended, Laarni Lozada received 35.21 percent of the votes (651,696 votes), making her the Grand Star Dreamer for this edition. Bugoy Drilon, the Farmer's Son, almost made it with his 29.70 percent of the votes (549,760 votes) making him the Second Star Dreamer. Announced Third Star Dreamer was the Romantic Crooner Miguel Mendoza for receiving 13.69 percent of the votes (253,412 votes).
The remaining top three scholars, the Pride of Puerto Galera Maria Liezl Garcia (13.36 percent or 247,346 votes), the Teen Heartthrob Van Louelle Pojas (6.06 percent or 112,065 votes), and the Singing Interior Designer Cris Pastor (1.97 percent or 36,487 votes) did not go empty-handed since they also had their share of prizes from ABS-CBN and sponsors of the show.
The finale last night also served as a reunion of sorts for the scholars who were eliminated and did not make it to the Final Six. Viewers were once again able to hear the other scholars who underwent training inside the Academy.
These were Apple Abarquez (The Different Couple's Daughter), Beatriz Muñoz (The Sweet Chanteusse), Chivas Anton Malunda (The Student husband), Christian Alvear (Small Boy Wonder), Hansen Nichols (The Cancer Survivor), Jovannie Malunda (The Teacher's Wife), Jun Ross Dio (The Stylist's Son), Michelle Belmonte (a stand-up comedian), and Rafael "Iñaki" Ignacio Ting (The Stage Performer).
Honorary scholar Catherine "Poy" Palma (The Obedient Daughter) also made it a point to grace the finals of Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2.
