Turismo Pilipina off to promising start without blessing of Binibining Pilipinas Charities

Final na ang list of contestants ng pinakabago at tinatayang pinakamalaking beauty contest sa bansa, ang Turismo Pilipina, na pinaumpisahan nina Precious Lara Quigaman (Miss International 2005), Denille Lou Valmonte (Bb. Pilipinas International 2006), at Karen Loren Agustin-Ostrea (Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2002).
Bago magpananghalian kahapon, October 4, sa Rembrandt Hotel, humarap muli ang tatlong beauty queens para sa contract signing ng mga dagdag pang sponsors ng unang Turismo Pilipina na gaganapin sa November 14 sa AFP Theater.
Pumasok na rin si Ms. Evelyn Alvaran-Cruz ng Hair Asia at ang EA Ygona Construction and Development Corporation, kung kaya't mas lalong lumaki at dumami ang mapapanalunan sa contest. Para sa Turismo Pilipina 2008 winner, bukod sa P250,000 cash prize at iba pang prizes, magkakaroon din ng house and lot sa Villa Generosa Subdivision sa Tarlac.
May 81 na probinsiya ang Pilipinas at may 17 na siyudad namang binubuo ang Metro Manila o National Capital Region (NCR). Bawat isang probinsiya at siyudad sa NCR ay puwedeng magkaroon ng kandidata para sa contest. Nang unang inilunsad ang Turismo Pilipina, sinabi nina Precious, Karen, at Denille na kung makakuha raw sila ng 40 hanggang 50 na kalahok, ituturing na nilang successful ang kanilang unang taon.
Seventy-five ang final contestants ng unang Turismo Pilipina; 60 na probinsiya mula sa 81 at 15 namang siyudad sa NCR.
"May kandidato kami mula Basilan, Maguindanao, kahit Shariff Kabunsuan [ARMM]," pagmamalaki ni Karen na umupo muna kasama ng mga manunulat bago magsimula ang presscon.
Patuloy niya, "Mayroon din kaming representative ng Siquijor. Saka kung hindi pa kami umikot sa lahat ng governors' office, saka lang naming nalaman ay tatlo pala ang Davao [Del Sur, Del Norte at Oriental]; ay tatlo pala ang Zamboanga [Del Sur, Del Norte at Sibugay]."
Ayon kina Precious at Denille, ang mga hindi nakuhanan ng representatives ay karamihan sa Mindanao, lalo na sa mas maraming Muslim. Ang iba naman daw, nahuli sa cut-off. Ang iba, hindi nagkasundo kung sino ang magre-represent dahil mas may prayoridad sa kanila ang mismong rekomendado ng governor ng probinsiya.
Isa rin daw ang naalis, ang dapat sanang magre-represent ng Cagayan Valley dahil napag-alaman nilang nag-pose na ito sa Playboy Philippine edition. Nagkaroon agad ito ng kapalit.
"Strict kami rito," banggit ni Precious.
BLESSING FROM BB. PILIPINAS. Dahil sa laki contest, hindi puwedeng hindi matanong ang tatlo kung may reaksiyon na ang Binibining Pilipinas organization ni Stella Marquez-Araneta.
"I'm smiling right now," biglang sabi ni Karen, na halatang umiiwas sa katanungan.
Walang gustong magsalita sa tatlo kahit may nakuha kaming impormasyon mula sa isang source na nag-meeting sina Karen at Ms. Marquez-Araneta, kung kaya't kami na rin ang nagkuwento ng mga narinig namin.
Balitang hindi raw nagustuhan ni Ms. Marquez-Araneta ang pagtatayo nila ng bagong contest. Balita ring pinapa-ban daw silang tatlo na makatungtong man lang sa buong Araneta center, pati na rin sa Gateway Mall.
Hindi ito kinumpirma nang diretsahan ng kahit na sino sa tatlo kina Precious, Karen, at Denille. Ngunit may "dream scenario" raw si Karen sa pagmi-meeting nila ni Ms. Marquez-Araneta na gusto niya sanang mangyari.
"I thought, ang sasabihin niya sa amin, ‘I'm so proud of you girls,'" sabi ni Karen. Hindi niya sinabi kung nangyari ito o hindi.
Tinanggal na officially si Karen sa listahan ng mga instructors ng Binibining Pilipinas candidates. Mula 2003, isa na si Karen sa mga past winners na tumutulong sa pag-mold ng mga bagong panalo ng Binibining Pilipinas. Isa rin siyang instructor sa John Robert Powers.
Hindi rin nilinaw ni Karen kung bakit siya tinanggal bilang instructor.
Isa pa sa narinig namin na hindi na rin nila napigilang mag-react, balitang ipapa-strip daw ni Ms. Marquez-Araneta ang kanilang mga titulo.
"She could not strip us of something we earned," sagot ni Lara.
