Manny Pacquiao's victory over Oscar de la Hoya and the unexpected death of young actor Marky Cielo could be the reason why GMA-7's primetime newscast 24 Oras topped the primetime race the day after, Monday, December 8. 24 Oras, anchored by Mike Enriquez and Mel Tiangco, generated an amazing 40.6 percent to lead all primetime programs.
Former leader Luna Mystika slipped to second place with 36.1 percent; followed by La Lola (32 percent), Gagambino (31.6 percent); and Survivor Philippines (28.9 percent).
Completing the Top 10 are the following shows: I Love Betty La Fea (24.2 percent), Family Feud (23.2 percent), Eva Fonda (21.8 percent), Dyosa (21.2 percent), and new GMA-7 Koreanovela Money War (20.8 percent).
In the daytime race, SiS's rating dramatically rose last Monday with 19.4 percent to place fourth overall, behind Eat Bulaga! (22.3 percent), Una Kang Naging Akin (20.9 percent); and Saan Darating ang Umaga? (19.5 percent). The entire SiS program on December 8 was a heartbreaking tribute to the late Marky Cielo.
The following day, December 9, SiS did another tribute to Marky and also did very well in the ratings. SiS tied with Saan Darating ang Umaga? for third place with identical 18.8 percent rating.
Una Kang Naging Akin topped the daytime race with 21.8 percent, closely followed by Eat Bulaga! with 21.4 percent.
Completing the Top 5 are Rosalinda (17.3 percent) and Pilipinas, Game KNB? (15.7 percent).
Luna Mystika, meanwhile, regained the top spot in the primetime race with 34.8 percent; followed by 24 Oras (32.1 percent), Gagambino (30.5 percent), La Lola (29.1 percent), and Survivor Philippines (27.5 percent).
Una Kang Naging Akin and Luna Mystika also topped the daytime and primetime viewing, respectively, last Wednesday (Dec. 10) and Thursday (Dec. 11).
