Cherry Pie Picache is one of the actors who has been very vocal about wanting more compensation than acting awards. In a previous article here in PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal), she was even quoted: "Ayaw ko na ng prestige, gusto ko na ng cash!"

The multi-awarded actress was just being honest about the need to earn more money right now due to the global financial crisis.

In an interview with her at the press conference of her new show Tayong Dalawa, the character actress said, "Uy, everybody should be wary about that [financial crisis] kasi 'yan ang prediction, di ba? I mean, prediction na hindi sa crystal ball. I mean, we've really seen the [signs], we'll really feel the crisis this year."

In spite of the impending economic crunch, Cherry Pie said that Pinoys should still maintain a positive outlook. "Siyempre, matatakot ka. Pero just like everybody, you'll be praying and hoping that habang may trabaho, makapag-ipon ng konti para kapag talagang may krisis... At the same time, nagpapasalamat pa rin ako kasi kumpara sa iba-'yong talagang walang tahanan, walang ano... parang everyday, ang prayer mo na lang talaga is to be grateful and thankful. Di ba, at least tayo may sapatos tayo, kumakain tayo, may trabaho tayo."

As an actress, Cherry Pie was candid enough to say that she once had to compromise her acting skill for a project she did not like.

"I've done it," said Cherry Pie. "Hindi ko naman puwedeng sabihin na lahat ng tinanggap ko ay gustung-gusto ko. I mean, ipokrita 'yon."

She continued, "There are works that I do for soul, lalung-lalo na kapag independent, lagi kong sinasabi na pangkaluluwa ko 'yon. And there are works that I do because I have bills to pay. But just the same, tulad ng sinasabi ko, even if I do that, kapag nagtrabaho ako, I give it my all."

For Cherry Pie, it's just a matter of showing the right character to the public. "Siyempre, titimplahin mo. Dito, ito ang acting na ibibigay mo. Kasi, may pang-independent ka, may pang-soap ka na acting. Hindi ka naman puwedeng tumitig lang sa soap, ililipat ng tao ang channel, mawawalan ka na ng soap. Wala ka ng soap! Kailangan Isadora ka [Cherry Pie's character in Iisa Pa Lamang], sumasampal ka. So, iba 'yon, i-level mo rin. So ngayon, 'yon ang gagawin natin. Basta may trabaho, work tayo, give it a hundred percent para prepared tayo."

Before she ended the interview, Cherry Pie shared her thoughts on the worst effect of the financial crisis. "Alam mo, ang mahirap sa crisis natin, ang mayaman, mayaman; ang mahirap, lalong hihirap; ang middle class, steady lang. Pero ang pinaka-affected, sa tingin ko lang, ang mahihirap, lalo pang maghihirap. 'Yon ang nakakalungkot."
