(UPDATED) BB Gandanghari reportedly denied entry in bar and restaurant for "cross-dressing"

BB Gandanghari was reportedly denied entry in a bar and restaurant in Metrowalk, Pasig City, because of cross-dressing. "What special right does [name of bar and restaurant] have that they can just force human beings to conform their gender expression to the gender expression traditionally associated with their assigned sex at birth?" wrote BB on her blog entry.

Sa ibaba ng listahan ng kanilang dress code ay nakasulat ang paalala na ito: "Management reserves the right to refuse entry to those who are inappropriately dressed, threat to security, mentally depraved, incorrigibly uncool."

"'Rules,' Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, 'are not necessarily sacred, principles are."' The incident that happened to me and my friends on the night of April 23 is an example of rules violating the principles which motivate humanity to live in equality, to treat each other with respect, and to uphold each other's dignity.

"I was all set to watch Rannie Raymundo's show in Metrowalk. Dee and my assistant Sass were with me. I didn't know where exactly in Metrowalk the show would be. So while I was on my way, I texted Maegan, who would also be watching with us. She told me that it was going to be in Aruba Bar and Restaurant.

"Upon hearing that it was going to be there, Sass brought up the unfortunate incident Inday Garutay [a standup comedian] experienced there. I heard it before but I didn't know that it happened there. Feeling worried, I requested Sass to ask Aruba Bar and Restaurant whether they have any problem with me watching the show.

"Sass talked to the bouncer of Aruba Bar and Restaurant but she was then referred to the manager. She asked Sass: "What is she wearing?" Sass told her that I was wearing what every woman wears.

"The manager then reiterated the blatant 'No Crossdressing' policy hanging on their door. Sass refused to accept her reasoning. The manager then offered to consult the owner of the bar.

"The manager returned and gave a compromise: We can stay outside of Aruba Bar and Restaurant. Sass left and narrated what she was told. We left Metrowalk and transferred into a bar that understands that bigotry is not a sound business strategy.

"I have felt perhaps the same feeling Rosa Parks felt when she was asked to give up her seat so a white passenger could sit. We, and countless human beings like me, suffered and continue suffering the same indignity of discrimination:

"Rosa Parks was discriminated because of her skin color; human beings of transgender experience are being discriminated because of their gender identity, the deeply felt internal and individual experience of gender, which of course does not always match the sex assigned by the doctors upon our birth.

"I wasn't demanding any special treatment from them. I was just there looking forward to enjoy the music and performance of Rannie, just like any other human being inside their bar.

"Certainly, I dressed up as a woman because I am a woman. If I dressed up in a masculine way, that would be the time that I would be crossdressing. But let's discard all the labels, it's not the issue.

jeans kasi are unisexual at i'm sure that everybody knows it. let's say naka-jeans nga si bb, pero over-all, she still looked like a cross-dresser, wala talaga. hehehe hayaan nyo na si adoboworld, wala tayong magagawa if that person really looks up to bb gandanghari. feelings nya yan eh. not everything everyone believes in is based on skillful tongues but on the sense of the words and the former, too.

sayang, rustom could've been so respectable because he was so true when he admitted to everyone that he's gay. fashion-wise, yeah, bb's beauty and statement are really appreciated by many, like me. but as time goes by, seems like she's abusing people's understanding and trying to corrupt minds because of her quot;paawa dahil sa diskriminasyonquot; effect. she's becoming oa in the real sense of the word.

nga pala, tearhere, thanks for complimenting my comment.

makisig, you are right, hindi lang gays ang cross dresser, even rockstars or other MALEstraight celebrities do cross dressing for fun or for fashion. Anong right right ang pinagsasabi ni rustom, lahat ng bar or kahit establishments meron sariling rules. Gusto lang palakihin ang issue.

Aruba bar is not discriminating people, they have the right to impose rules and sets of policies. Rustom has gone overboard with his cross-dressing stint. while rustom has the right to cross-dress the same must not prejudice the right of others

There's nothing wrong with expressing yourself through cross-dressing or whatnot but keep in mind that there are still rules that you have to follow. Kahit saang establishment ka pumunta may kanya-kanyang policy and procedures that they need to uphold. Learn to respect yourself and then maybe, just maybe, others wil learn to respect you.

    TARAY 'NO?!

Peace tayong lahat! Comment ko lang yun! I love you all!!

Mr. Rustom Padilla, lahat ng establishment, and lahat ng tao for that matter, pwede silang gumawa ng sarili nilang set of policies as guidelines to follow, hindi discrimination yon for so long as before you enter the establishment, you are already notified of them. Huwag ka nang mag paka martir dyan at make it appear na prejudicial sa mga gay and aruba because maraming gay na nakakapasok dyan who are APPROPRIATELY DRESSED. ikaw lang kasi ang walang delikadesa at nag co crossdressing in public na parang walang batas na sinusunod. mahiya ka naman kung hindi sa sarili mo, para na lang sa pamilya mo!

Im starting 2 think that Rustom aka BB actually knows beforehand abt the policies of Aruba..and he came there deliberately wearing a woman's clothes just so to make an issue abt the bar's rule..Ive been in Aruba before en mrmi din gay nagpupunta dyan,en they enjoy being there, yun mga disenteng bakla nag-eenjoy jan sa Aruba..ikaw lng Rustom ang gumawa ng issue tungkol jan..I commend Aruba for not bending their rules just so u cud enter the bar dressing lyk a woman, while other gays lyk ur kind choose to wear appropriate clothings just so they cud enter the said place..hndi sa lahat ng panahon u will be excused kse gay ka,at pag di ka napag-bigyan sa pagwawala mo eh u will cry foul..Ikaw na yata ang pnka-OA na bading that ds country has ever known.

i heard that rustom was warned

    beforehand by his assistant about

aruba's policies, pero sumige pa rin

    siya.

i think rustom went to aruba for

PUBLICITY! alam mo na ngang bawal ang

cross dresser sumige ka pa rin kaya

    sino ang mali?

to be honest, i dont like the pasosyal

image that rustom is showing the

public. sa totoo lang baduy syang

manamit. mas rerespetuhin ka ng mga

tao kung ilalagay mo sa tama ang

    mga pinaggagagawa mo rustom!

no offense sa ibang mga gays kasi

marami rin naman akong gay friends pero

inilalagay nila ang mga sarili nila sa

    tama.

sa mga pinoy na taga europe o san francisco ek ek dyan. pwede ba, ang OA niyo. huwag dalhin ang pagka PC niyo sa pilipinas at di uubra yan. wala naman yun sa pagka bakla ni rustom, nagkataon lang isa siyang baklang cross~dresser, meron ding mga rock star na straight na cross~dresser din and their case would be no different. stop being such drama queens. aruba is a private establish and they reserve the right to impose such rules.

am not bragging, just want to enlighten some minds saying that some people whose now in foreign countries are chambermaids, etc etc and whats the problem if some of them are maids? yaya etc? theyre earning dollars, euro or pounds, working clean and not stealing unlike sa iba dyan eh puro tsismis inaatupag. and to RUSTOM he has the right to express her/himself. that Aruba bar should not be stupid to impose rules, in which to the point that theyre discriminating people. wake up.
