Isang rally ng suporta para sa director at komiks novelist na si Carlo J. Caparas ang idinaraos ngayon, August 7, sa harap ng National Commission for Cultural and the Arts (NCCA) building sa Intramuros, Manila.
Pare-pareho ang kulay at size ng mga kartolina na dala ng mga protester. Nakapaskil sa dingding ng NCCA ang mga kartolina, at uniform ang pagkakasulat ng mga letra na isinulat sa blue, black, at red pentel pen.
Nakasulat sa mga kartolina ang pagbatikos laban sa mga tumutuligsa sa pagkakapili kay Caparas bilang National Artist for film and visual arts.
Isinisigaw ng mga protester ang pangalan ni Carlo at lalong lumakas ang kanilang pagsigaw nang bumuhos ang malakas na ulan. Nagpulasan ng takbo ang mga protester para hindi sila mabasa. Bumalik lamang sila sa kanilang puwesto nang huminto ang ulan.
Isang presscon din ang ipinatawag ng mag-asawang Carlo at Donna Villa ngayong araw para ihayag ang kanilang nararamdaman sa mga diumano'y "mala-elitista" na nagpoprotesta sa mataas na karangalan na ipinagkaloob ni Pangulong Gloria Macapagal Arroyo kay Caparas.
Samantala, nakatakda ring magsagawa ng sarili nilang protesta ang ilan sa pinamalalaking pangalan sa larangan ng sining dahil sa anila'y "pagkamatay" ng National Artist award. Tutol sila sa pagkakaluklok kay Caparas at sa NCCA executive director Cecile Guidote-Alvarez bilang National Artists ngayong taon.
