Wala raw basehan ang akusasyon ng manunulat at blogger na si Angela Stuart Santiago sa ibinibintang nitong plagiarism sa kilalang TV personality na si Karen Davila. Ito ay ayon sa isang taong konektado sa News and Current Affairs ng ABS-CBN.
Inakusahan ni Santiago si Davila ng pangongopya sa libro niya, ang Himagsikan Sa EDSA—Walang Himala!, na ginamit diumano sa Laban Ni Cory documentary, na iprinodyus ng ABS-CBN. Si Karen ang isa sa mga hosts ng naturang documentary. (Click here to read related article.)
Ayon sa aming nakausap—na ayaw magpakilala dahil hindi raw siya ang official spokesperson ng News and Current Affairs ng ABS-CBN—kinuha ng network si Karen para mag-host ng Laban Ni Cory, kasama ang iba pang news personalities sa Kapamilya network, gaya nina Korina Sanchez at Ces Drilon. Bilang host lamang sa naturang programa, hindi raw si Karen ang sumulat ng kanyang sinabi sa show.
Tulad sa kanyang gabi-gabing paghahatid balita sa TV Patrol World sa ABS-CBN, binabasa lang daw ni Karen ang mga nire-report niya at wala siyang pahintulot galawin ang anumang nakasulat doon. Dumadaan pa raw ang report sa maraming proseso, saka aaprubahan ng mga nakakataas sa programa.
May sariling writers and researchers din daw ang Laban Ni Cory documentary, na siyang sumulat ng spiels ni Karen para sa kanyang segment. Pagkatapos gawin ang materyal, dumaan daw ang script sa ilang ehekutibo ng show, bago tuluyang inaprubahan at basahin sa ere.
Bagamat sa sarili niyang programa sa ABS-CBN, ang Saturday-morning show Wonder Mom, si Karen Davila ay nagkakaroon din ng pagkakataong magsulat ng binabasa niya, sa pagkakataong ito, ayon pa rin sa source, "Karen is just part of the show."
Dagdag pa ng aming source, bothered daw si Karen sa mga pangyayari dahil maingat daw ito sa kanyang "reputasyon at kredibilidad" bilang "nirerespetong newscaster sa telebisyon," kaya hindi nito magagawa ang ibinibintang sa kanya ng manunulat na si Santiago.
Ganunpaman, dahil kabaha-bahala ang charge na plagiarism—na pag-aako bilang sa iyo ang ninakaw at ikinalat na ideya at kataga ng iba—kinuhanan ng PEP ng statement ang head ng Corporate Communications ng ABS-CBN na si Bong Osorio. Ito ang payak na pahayag ng network executive:
"ABS-CBN does not condone plagiarism. We are currently investigating the serious allegation and will release our findings to the public."
