Dinalaw ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) ang first shooting day ni Richard Gutierrez para sa bago niyang pelikula, ang horror movie na Patient X, sa Forest Farms sa Antipolo City, nung Biyernes, Agosto 14. Kinunan ang eksena sa isa sa mga model houses ng executive village doon, na kunwari ay bahay ni Richard sa pelikula.
Ang Patient X ay unang venture ni Richard bilang producer, through his Iced Out Productions, sa pakikipagtulungan ng GMA Films at Viva Films.
"Nang tanggapin ito ng GMA Films, nagsabi na ako kay Atty. Annette [Gozon-Abrogar, president of GMA Films] na gusto kong makipag-co-produce sa kanila ng Viva Films—ang Iced Out Productions ko. Pumayag naman sila kaya tatlo kaming producer dito. Equal ang sharing namin," lahad ni Richard.
Ano naman ang pakiramdam na gumanap bilang duktor sa pelikula?
"Exciting, dahil first time kong gaganap ng isang doctor," wika ni Richard. "Hindi ba napakalaking responsibilities ng isang doctor? You have to help people live and survive."
YAM LARANAS. Ang Patient X ay nagsisilbi ring reunion project nila ni Yam Laranas, na nagdirek kay Richard sa isa pang horror movie, ang Sigaw. May Hollywood version na rin ang Sigaw, na pinamagatang The Echo, na idinirek din ni Yam at pinagbibidahan ni Jesse Bradford. Kasama rin sa cast ng Hollywood remake ng Sigaw si Iza Calzado, na nasa original version din ng naturang Pinoy horror movie.
Ani Richard, "Excited din ako dahil four or five years ago pa ang first horror movie na ginawa ko, under Direk Yam, ang Sigaw. Kaya sort of a reunion ito sa amin ni Direk Yam."
How is it working again with Direk Yam?
"Nakita ko na it's even better now," sagot niya. "In-apply niya ang mga natutunan niya noong nasa Hollywood siya sa ginagawa namin ngayon. Nag-research siya tungkol sa isinulat niyang story at nandoon din ako sa mga meetings at brainstorming.
"Nakikita kong he is inspired at nararamdaman ko ang pagiging passionate worker niya. Hindi lang siya direktor at scriptwriter, siya rin ang nag-iilawat director of photography."
BACK TO HORROR GENRE. Bakit horror movie ang napili niyang gawin pagkatapos ng sunud-sunod na romantic movies na ginawa niya?
"Matagal ko nang sinabi sa GMA Films na kapag may gagawin akong movie this year, gusto ko naman horror movie. I've been wanting to make a horror movie. Tamang-tama naman Direk Yam is in town at mayroon pala siyang ginawang horror story.
"After naming um-attend ni Direk Yam ng Los Angeles International Scream Festival in 2006, few times na lang kaming nakapag-communicate dahil pareho na rin kaming naging busy. Ginawa niya kasi ang The Echo. Pero without us talking ni Direk Yam, may isinulat na nga siyang horror movie na para raw talaga sa akin. Kaya tamang-tama."
Tungkol ba saan ang Patient X?
"Request po ni Direk Yam na huwag muna naming ipaalam kung ano ang story ng movie na mangyayari lang in 24 hours. Allowed lang akong sabihin kung ano ang character ko dito at ang mga kasama ko sa movie," sabi ni Richard.
Kasama ni Richard sa Patient X si Heart Evangelista na gaganap bilang aswang. Ito ang first team-up nila sa pelikula at ito rin ang unang pelikula ni Heart sa GMA Films. Gaya ni Richard, si Heart ay mina-manage ni Annabelle Rama.
"Isang acting piece sa kanya ito. Patient ko siya at may sikreto siya na ako lang ang nakakaalam," sabi ni Richard tungkol sa role ni Heart.
Kasama rin daw sa pelikula si TJ Trinidad bilang pulis, at ang mga kapatid ni Richard na sina Rocky at Elvis, at Ritchie Paul. Lahat ng mga ito ay mina-manage din ni Annabelle Rama.
"Sina Rocky at Elvis, mga aswang sila. Si Elvis ang leader ng mga aswang. Si Ritchie Paul ay nurse na kasama ko sa hospital."
