Geoff Eigenmann is happy for the success of his mother Gina Alajar in GMA-7's interactive reality-based singing competition, Celebrity Duets.
"Siyempre, all-out support as much as possible," Geoff told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an interview earlier today, October 7, at the Rembrandt Hotel in Quezon City where Rosalinda was being taped.
At the press conference of Celebrity Duets last August 24 at Annabel's restaurant on Tomas Morato in Quezon City, the seasoned actress expressed anxiety over her part in the program, mainly because she's not a singer, unlike all the other contestants.
"Everyday, I still ask myself if I'm ready, if I will go on, if I will back out, or ayoko na lang. It's everyday, it's everyday lurking... lurking on my mind. That's why it added stress, kaya na-stress akong talaga," Gina told the entertainment press.
"Unang-una, nagkakaroon na nga ako ng sleepless nights. Noong tinawagan ako ni Ms. Redgie Magno [senor program manager of GMA-7], akala ko pinaglalaruan lang ako. Every week, kailangan mong magkabisa ng songs. I think, pare-pareho lang naman kami, hindi kami magagaling na singers. May edge sa kanila? I think, I am the best actress!" she laughed, trying to downplay her apprehension.
CLOSET SINGER NO MORE. But to everyone's surprise Gina managed to stave off elimination and is emerging as a genuine fan favorite to take home the top prize.
Gina's initial reluctance seemed to fade as her confidence gradually grew each week. Geoff proudly agreed, saying, "She's having fun naman. Katulad last week, she's part of the top three, so happy siya dun. This coming week naman, surprise 'yong makakasama niya sa duet so exciting talaga."
Watching his mom sing and compete at the same time in front of the camera still fascinates Geoff, describing his feeling as "weird."
"Lagi kong nakikita 'yon dati nagbi-videoke lang!" laughed Geoff, who was seated beside Rosalinda lead star Carla Abellana during the interview.
"But now it's a whole different story because she's really competing and she's enjoying what she's doing. Kaya ngayon alam ko na na kahit saan mo ilagay nanay ko, she's gonna do her best."
