Jennylyn Mercado's Mommy Lydia was recently rushed to the hospital due to complications that started with a cough and escalated to something more serious. Mommy Lydia is Jen's aunt but the former legally adopted her after her biological mother migrated to London, England.
"Matagal na 'yong ubo niya, e," a worried yet composed Jen shared with Startalk today, October 10.
X-rays revealed that there was a spot on Mommy Lydia's right lung that was, according to Jen, "parang sign yata ng tuberculosis."
Tuberculosis, or TB as it is commonly called, is an infectious disease that attacks the lungs. Symptoms include chronic cough, fever and weight loss. Its treatment includes a course of antibiotics that may take several months to a year or longer.
Jen added that aside from x-rays, additional tests have to be done to determine what other medical issues her mom may or may not have.
Such is Jen's worry that it is hard for her to concentrate on anything else while Mommy Lydia's true condition is still to be officially determined.
IT'S JUST OLD AGE, SAYS MOMMY LYDIA. Whatever the doctors may later find, Mommy Lydia feels that it is simply old age taking its natural toll on her. "Simply, siguro dala na sa katandaan ko," she calmly said. But she does worry that such health complications may affect her responsibility as a loving lola to grandson Alex Jazz or AJ.
She, however, expressed that prayer has always been the answer to such trials in life.
But when Jen gave birth to AJ last August 16, 2008, Mommy Lydia once again prayed. This time for an extension.
