Hindi maiwasang malungkot ni Maxene Magalona kapag napag-uusapan ang parating niyang birthday sa November 23. First time daw kasi na hindi niya makakasamang mag-celebrate ng birthday ang ama na si Francis Magalona. Yumao ang tinaguriang Master Rapper noong March 6, 2009 dahil sa leukemia.
"Siyempre nakakalungkot kasi wala na si Papa," ani Maxene nang ma-interview siya ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).
Twenty-three years old na nga si Maxene sa birthday niya. Siguro ay kakain lang daw silang pamilya sa isang restaurant.
"Kasi that's what we usually do kapag may birthday," sabi niya. "Wala kaming grand celebration, walang big parties, walang ganun. Kumain lang kami sa isang restaurant. Simpleng kainan lang. Kasi nung buhay si Papa, ganun naman ang lagi naming ginagawa. So, gusto namin ngayong wala na si Papa, ganun pa rin ang gagawin namin."
Ano naman ang birthday wish niya?
"Siyempre, for my family to keep our bond. Kasi when my dad died, mas naging close talaga kami. I guess that's one of the positive things that came out after he died. Kasi yun lang naman talaga ang turo sa amin ng parents namin, na in every situation, every experience, you look at the bright side. Kahit na masakit, tingnan mo kung ano yung naidulot na kabutihan na nangyari sa buhay mo because of that experience. So, yung mga lessons na natutunan mo, yung mga values na nakuha mo on how you grew as a person.
"Ang gusto ko lang, ang wish ko, maging close pa rin ang family namin and good health for every one sa family. Personally, siyempre more job opportunities. Tapos, magga-graduate na rin ako in March [2010]. So, when I graduate, gusto ko more job opportunities kasi I really want to focus on my career," saad ni Maxene.
Magtatapos na nga next year si Maxene sa kursong Social Science sa Ateneo de Manila University. Gusto niya raw i-dedicate ang diploma niya sa kanyang yumaong ama.
"Ide-dedicate ko talaga sa kanya. Kasi my dad, yun ang frustration niya, e, yung makapagtapos talaga kami ng studies namin. Kasi he was never able to graduate, also my mom [Pia Arroyo Magalona]. So, they never really asked for mga dean's lister or mga high grades, basta yung tama lang na grades. Sa kanila, that's the most important thing, yung education. Kasi showbiz will not be here forever naman, di ba?"
CHRISTMAS WITHOUT FRANCIS. Sobrang miss na raw ni Maxene ang kanyang dad, lalo na nga't nalalapit na rin ang Pasko. Paano kaya nila ipagdiriwang ang Pasko nilang mag-pamilya?
"Yun ang hindi ko alam," sambit niya. "Sobrang... yun ang pinakamalungkot sa tingin ko, for me. Ina-anticipate ko na talagang it's gonna be very sad. Pero hindi naman kami mag-iiyakan. Alam mo yun, parang it's gonna be gloomy lang kasi ang laki ng loss na natamo namin when he died. Kasi Christmas is very different from all the other holidays we celebrate. "Every year lagi siyang gumagawa ng mga surprises, ganyan. Tapos yung mga gift na gusto namin, yun talaga ang binibili niya. Hindi siya bumibili ng ayaw naming gift. Kasi, gustung-gusto niyang makita yung expression namin pag nakita namin yung surprise niya. Gustung-gusto niya yun, tuwang-tuwa siya. So, Christmas talaga was always Papa's favorite holiday kaya it's gonna be very sad."
JC TIUSECO. Sa kabila ng nadaramang kalungkutan Maxene still stays positive, lalo na nga't kasama siya sa cast ng ChristmaSerye ng GMA-7 na Sana Ngayong Pasko. Excited na raw siya sa bago niyang soap after ng Sine Novela Presents Kung Aagawin Mo Ang Lahat Sa Akin dahil pawang magagaling na mga artista ang kasama niya rito, na kinabibilangan nina Ms. Susan Roces, Christopher de Leon, Gina Alajar, TJ Trinidad, JC de Vera, Yna Asistio, at JC Tiuseco.
Natuwa nga si Maxene nang malaman niya na makakasama niya ulit si JC Tiuseco. Balik-tambalan nga sila after ng Kung Aagawin Mo Ang Lahat Sa Akin.
"Siyempre natutuwa naman ako kasi mainit talaga yung pagtanggap ng mga tao sa tambalan namin, lalo na dun sa Kung Aagawin. Ngayon lang talaga ako naka-experience na sinasabing, 'Bagay na bagay kayo, tapos ang ganda n'yong tingnan together, maganda yung chemistry n'yo on screen...' Marami na akong naka-love team, pero siya talaga yung mas maraming positive feedback," saad ni Maxene.
Nilinaw naman ni Maxene ang isyung magkasintahan na sila ni JC, lalo na't madalas silang makitang magkasama kahit sa malls. Aniya, hindi pa raw nanliligaw ang kauna-unahang Pinoy Sole Survivor sa kanya.
"Siguro sa ngayon, we're forming our friendship lang and developing what we have. Parang nagiging best friends kami. Alam mo, yung close na kami sa isa't isa and we tell each other's secrets, ganyan. Kumbaga, we found a confidante in each other. And it's very rare that you get to find someone like that, especially in show business, na maging close talaga. So, ayoko namang i-jeopardize na porke't close kami, e, papasok na kami sa romantic relationship."
Pero posible bang mag-level up ang kanilang friendship?
"Well, si JC kasi is a very sweet guy," sabi ni Maxene. "Napakabait niya, maalaga. So, if ever na magparamdam siya or whatever, hindi ko naman ide-deny na mapapansin ko rin yun, or puwedeng ma-develop ako or whatever, kasi talagang mabait si JC. Pero sa ngayon, ayoko munang bigyan ng malisya yung closeness namin."
