Reality talent show Talentadong Pinoy concluded its first finals night titled "Battle of the Champions" yesterday evening, March 6, at the Cuneta Astrodome. Yoyo Tricker Joshua Davis was dubbed as the country's first Ultimate Talentado and went home one million pesos richer.
A total of seven Hall of Famers and one wildcard finalist vied for the coveted title: Far East Acrobats (acrobatics); Wanlu (ventriloquism); Tribal Dancers (fire poi); Leah Patricio (singing); Omar the Ladder Balancer (ladder tricks); Makata Tawanan (Balagtasan); Yoyo Tricker (yoyo tricks); and Jackielyn (singing). All of the finalists had been defending champions for five consecutive weeks prior to the finals night, save for visually-impaired Jackielyn who won the audience's sympathy and was later added as a wildcard finalist.
The grand finals introduced a special jury which determined half of the winner's total score. Among them were: comedian Joey de Leon, actress Judy Ann Santos, beauty queen and host Ruffa Gutierrez, director Joey Reyes, character actress Alessandra de Rossi, and thespian-singer Audie Gemora. Text votes provided the other fifty percent.
The Battle of the Champions also brought in a stellar list of performers including Shall We Dance host Lucy Torres Gomez, dancer and host Regine Tolentino, local bands Bamboo and Sugarfree, rapper Gloc9, and singers Raymond Marasigan and Luke Mejares. Other celebrities sighted in the audience were Ruffa's mom Annabelle Rama and TV5 exclusive talent Paolo Bediones.
BIGGER, BETTER SHOWS. With TV5 big bosses Manny Pangilinan and Rey Espinosa gracing the show, it was revealed that the network's programming will soon take a fresh turn, as all-new programs are scheduled to air this year. Audiences are to expect a Sunday showbiz talkshow, a Sunday party, a few reality shows, a sitcom with Vic Sotto, a show starring comedy king Dolphy, a game show helmed by Joey de Leon, and shows featuring Diamond Star Maricel Soriano and Amy Perez. TV5's News and Current Affairs department is also being improved in line with the network's proposed changes.
Talentadong Pinoy host Ryan Agoncillo later announced that the show will see a few upgrades starting next week. Fans and followers of the reality show should look forward to bigger cash prizes, a better look for the stage, weekly auditions, and larger group sizes. He also mentioned that beginning next week, Talentadong Pinoy will add a Sunday airdate to its previous Saturday showcase.
