TV host Lucy Torres Gomez is now officially a public servant.

Lucy, wife of actor Richard Gomez, was proclaimed as the Representative of the fourth district of Leyte at 10:42 a.m. today, May 12. The proclamation was held at the Tacloban Canvassing Hall.

Richard, who was with Lucy during the proclamation, sent this text message to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) earlier this afternoon: "What a nice feeling after a tough battle."

Goma was, of course, referring to the hardships they went through throughout the campaign period until the election.

It was Richard who actually ran for the congressional race in the fourth district of Leyte. But the actor was disqualified by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) citing his failure to establish residency in Ormoc, Leyte. According to the law, individuals running for public office at the local government level must have at least one year of residency in the city or province they choose to represent.

Richard endorsed the candidacy of Lucy Torres as his replacement even before the Comelec issued its final decision on the actor's disqualification case.

Lucy accepted the challenge and she was rewarded with a convincing victory.
