"We're trying talaga to fix everything first para kapag nag-umpisa na kami, nag-settle down na kami finally, tama na ang lahat, 'yon lang ang gusto namin," says Regine Velasquez about the news that she and boyfriend Ogie Alcasid are planning to adopt a child.

Regine Velasquez doubts if her boyfriend Ogie Alcasid would easily say yes if offered a government post by the incoming administration.

"Nababalitaan namin, pero wala pang formal offer. I already asked him about this," says the Asia's Songbird during the launch of Pinoy Pledge issue of a glossy magazine, where she posed as its cover girl, held last night, June 17, at the Manila Hotel.

She added, "Siguro kung mayroon man siyang interest sa politics, hindi lang ngayon. He's so into his music, he's so into writing songs, and 'yon ang reason. Nandoon pa ang focus niya, e."

Regine added that Ogie is deeply involved in promoting Original Pilipino Music (OPM):

"Kasi alam mo siya, he's so passionate about OPM talaga kasi gusto niyang manatiling buhay ang Filipino music, which is an admirable quality that Ogie has. Kasi bilang songwriter, talagang pinapanindigan niya talagang makatulong sa ibang kapwa niyang songwriters at singers," she related.

Showbiz comes first for Ogie, said Regine, and she's happy about it because politics is a tough job.

"If ever magiging interesado siya sa politics, siguro kapag hindi na siya masyadong interesado sa showbiz. I'm actually happy na nandoon ang focus niya kasi parang mahirap ang politics, e."

Does this mean that she's not in favor of Ogie sitting in public office?

"Hindi naman sa ganun," she replied. "Kasi alam ko na if ever he chooses to be a politician, he will be able to help a lot of people kasi ganyan siya. Mahilig siyang tumulong, mahilig siyang mag-encourage, mag-inspire ng mga tao. Maganda 'yon. But I always say naman na even if you're not a politician, you can also naman do that, e. You can always naman inspire people, help people, without being a politician."

Regine expressed her support for whatever decision Ogie makes if a formal offer comes his way. "If ever one day he decides to be a politician, I will, of course, support him."

ON ADOPTING A CHILD. Regine was surprised when the media asked her about a news item that she and Ogie are considering adopting a child.

"I don't know where that chismis came from. Wala kaming napag-usapang ganun," she said.

Regine explained that adoption is such a serious matter that she and Ogie have to sit down and talk about it before making a final decision.

"Ang laki-laking usapin 'yan for the both of us. Kasi, hindi lang naman basta-basta kukuha ka lang ng bata 'tapos akala mo laruan kapag ayaw mo na, ibabalik mo na. Hindi ganun 'yon, e," she said.

She also mentioned that there are things they still need to resolve before they even think about adopting a child.

"Iba kasi 'yong naging sitwasyon namin, e. So, as you all know, iba naman talaga ang naging sitwasyon namin. We're trying to be careful bawat step kasi siyempre, gusto namin habambuhay na sa amin ang relationship na 'to. Ayaw namin ng mga hindi mo nakakalkulang moves. So, as much as possible, pinag-iisipan namin ang lahat.

NOOD KA MUNA!

"If ever we do decide to adopt, we really talk about it. Ang dami-dami naming kailangang i-consider kasi nga hindi naman 'yon joke, hindi naman 'yan basta-basta."

PARTY PILIPINAS. During the interview, Regine was also asked about the changes that are happening on GMA-7's Sunday musical-variety show Party Pilipinas, where she is one of the main performers. She is glad that people recognize the improvements on the show.

"Actually, for the last four weeks... Sa States nga, 'yon ang pinag-uusapan nila, Party Pilipinas, when we were there. I'm happy and I'm very proud kasi talagang sobrang pinag-uusapan ang show. Ke maganda o pangit, pinag-uusapan pa rin ang show," she said.

Regine said that she was impressed by the Independence Day special of Party Pilipinas last Sunday, July 13.

"Noong last Sunday, I was very impressed with the production and with Mark Reyes as the director. They were able to capture the same energy SOP had before, you know, that same energy. But the production number and the staging, ang ganda-ganda nilang nagawa."

Unfortunately, Regine won't be able to perform this Sunday, June 20, when Party Pilipinas will be presented on 3D because she and Ogie will be attending a wedding.

"I'm sure it will be a great show. It's a first, a variety show na magiging 3D, so watch out for that," she said.
