Kim Chiu still couldn't believe that she made it to the cover of YES! magazine's Most Beautiful Stars for 2010.
The first winner of ABS-CBN's Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition was formally introduced as the cover girl of the annual special during a launching event held today, June 22, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Quezon City.
"Nakakailang labas na ang YES! na 100 Most Beautiful and nandun ako. Una, pang-twelve tapos naging pangalawa, tapos ngayon parang totoo ba 'to? Ako? Parang hindi naman ako kagandahan! Nahihiya ako kasi siyempre ang dami-daming artista na iba, maganda, mestiza, ako Intsik lang!" laughed the 20-year-old actress when she was cornered by PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the entertainment press.
Kim officially joins the ranks of past cover girls of YES! Most Beautiful Stars—Judy Ann Santos (2007), KC Concepcion (2008), and Marian Rivera (2009).
"Siyempre, thankful ako and sobrang nagpapasalamat ako dahil minsan lang ako mabigyan ng chance na ganito, so dagdag confidence ito sa sarili ko," continued Kim.
The list of names included in this year's edition (as in the past) were not based on ranking but rather presented under different categories as deliberated and chosen by the entire YES! team.
Editor-in-chief Jo-Ann Maglipon wrote in her Editor's Note that the present installment contains "more new names and never-before-seen faces than in any edition past. They've also gotten younger and fresher and have started to come from everywhere: music contests, reality shows, talent searches, commercials, noontime extravaganzas, theater, and indie films."
NO LOVE TEAM RIVALRY. Also present during the launching were Kapuso stars Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal, whose love team is being pitted against that of Kim and Gerald Anderson's.
The three stars showed no signs of that supposed rivalry throughout the event. More than just exchanging pleasantries, they even talked while the customary question-and-answer program was going on.
"Sobrang okay silang kausap, kakuwentuhan, nanonood sila ng shows namin and 'yon, nagku-congrats kami sa isa't isa. Walang rivalry... Ngayon lang kami nagkausap-usap nang matagal and okay naman," Kim said.
Aljur made no secret of his admiration for Kim and Gerald's love-team partnership even in past interviews. Sitting beside Kim finally allowed the hunky actor to say it personally to the Kapamilya star.
"Sabi nga niya nanonood daw siya ng Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo 'tsaka nung movie namin. Sabi ko 'Weh?' tapos sabi niya 'Oo' nanood daw siya," smiled Kim.
The possibility of seeing the two love team partners work together in one project remains far-fetched, given their contracts with their respective home networks. But the likelihood perhaps in the future is not entirely remote.
"Siyempre, okay naman din," said Kim, when asked if she's open to the idea. "Open naman ako dun."
