There has been no official statement from film outfit Star Cinema about why it cancelled the romantic movie that would have starred Toni Gonzaga and Robin Padilla. But many reports, still unconfirmed, have already come out about it.
One reason, which PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) wrote on its Twitter account, is that the action star is said to prefer a leading lady who is single. Toni is currently attached. Director Paul Soriano has been her boyfriend for nearly four years.
Another reason going the rounds is Robin's being linked to Mariel Rodriguez, who is Toni's former co-host in Pinoy Big Brother and Entertainment Live! The Mariel-Robin talk began after Robin had a two-week stint as co-host of Wowowee, to take the place of Willie Revillame.
On this issue, however, Toni has asked the entertainment press not to probe her about it anymore. During the press launch of her newest music album titled All Me held last night, July 29, at Dolce Bar on Tomas Morato, Quezon City, Toni said:
"Ayaw ko na, ayaw ko nang magsalita. Kasi, magsasalita pa ako, hihingan n'yo pa ng reaksiyon ang kabilang panig, hihingan pa ng reaksiyon... hahaba. Tama na, tapos na. So, iwi-wish na lang natin sila ng happiness, sana masaya sila."
As to her relationship with Mariel, the singer-actress said that she maintains the friendship they have long had. She added that it is only their respective fans and other people around them who create negative issues between her and Mariel.
"Huwag na nating gawan ng intriga," said Toni. "Lilipas din ito. Lilipas din itong isyu, kasi pinag-aaway kami ng mga fans, pinag-aaway kami ng mga tao sa paligid namin."
Toni admitted, however, that she has lessened her communication with Mariel. She quickly clarified that this was simply to stay away from intrigues, but refused to give specific details about these.
She related, "Wala na kasi akong alam, e. Dati, I used to know the truth. But there came a point when I stopped knowing the truth, e, kaya wala na talaga akong alam. Dati, alam ko ang mga nangyayari. Ngayon, hindi ko na alam. Hindi na kami nagkikita. Umiiwas ako, e. Umiiwas ako sa mga isyu, ayaw kong palakihin. "
Toni is aware, of course, that avoiding the issue may create a gap between her and Mariel. She explained, "Gano'n kasi ako, e, hindi ako confrontational. Kasi, sabi ng daddy ko, kapag mataas ang emosyon mo, basta mabigat ang nararamdaman mo, or mataas, baka makapagbitaw ka ng mga salita na ire-regret mo in the future. So, pahupa muna tayo ng isyu. Siguro, eventually, maaayos din lahat, magkakaroon din ng linaw."
Immediately after saying, this, she repeated that she has no personal issues with Mariel and that it was some of their fans who started the noise. So, to stop this issue from becoming bigger Toni said she has already talked to her fans.
"'Yong mga fans, siyempre, sensitive sila, hindi naman natin na maiiwasan 'yon. Pero, I see to it na kinakausap ko ang mga fans ko lalo na 'yong mga malalapit sa akin, na huwag silang mang-aaway, huwag silang mangba-bash ng ibang artista, kasi hindi maganda 'yon. Kasi, kung anuman ang ginagawa nila, magre-reflect sa amin 'yon. Hayaan na lang nila na magsalita ang ibang tao against me. Quiet na lang kami kasi at the end of the day, lalabas naman kung ano ang totoo."
NO ILL FEELINGS. To prove that everything is well between her and Mariel and that she has no ill feelings towards Robin, she happily announced her guest appearance on the pilot episode of Pilipinas Win na Win! tomorrow, July 31. She will promote her album on the show, which is hosted by Robin and Mariel, together with Kris Aquino, Valerie Concepcion, and Pokwang.
Is there a chance for her and Mariel to meet each other on the show?
She replied, "Hindi ko alam kung magkikita kami kasi hindi naman kami pareho ng dressing room, e. Depende kung iinterbyuhin nila ako. Walang masama, walang kailangang iwasan, hindi kailangang magkaroon ng problema, kasi tapos na."
Toni repeated: "Wala na akong sama ng loob, masaya na ang lahat. Masaya sila, masaya ako, masaya ang taong-bayan!"
