Zanjoe Marudo has already bade farewell to his Banana Split family. The former Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition housemate taped his last episode for the gag show last Tuesday, July 27, in a gas station on Visayas Avenue, Quezon City.
The last taping day of the 28-year-old actor turned out to be emotional not only for Zanjoe but for all the cast and crew of Banana Split. He joined the program last year after his sitcom with John Prats and Jayson Gainza called Pare Koy was cancelled.
According to a PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) source, Zanjoe was pulled out from Banana Split because his home network is already grooming him as a dramatic lead actor.
And although he's been enjoying his stint at the gag show immensely, he has to prepare for his next project, which is the TV adaptation of the pocketbook series titled Martha Cecilia's Kristine, where he will be paired with Cristine Reyes.
NEXT ROLE. Zanjoe is set to portray the character of Jaime in Kristine, and he's serious about giving drama his best shot, in the same manner that he was able to crack what it takes to be a comedian.
In a press statement, which was issued for his upcoming series, he said, "Gusto kong makuha yung respeto ng ibang tao, ng ibang artista, ng mga katrabaho ko. At iyan ang gagawin ko sa Kristine."
Prior to this, Zanjoe played leading man in the following TV series: Dyosa (2008), Varga (2008), and The Wedding (2009). Recently, he appeared as the leading man of comedienne Pokwang in the five-episode suspense movie Cinco.
Kristine will start airing on August 16 in ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida block.
