Gretchen Barretto has been known in showbiz for the longest time as a major style icon. Inevitably, wherever Gretchen appears—whether in public outings or at private engagements—people take notice of what she's wearing, from head to toe.
This September, YES!Magazine selects over 130 photos from Gretchen's personal laptop to come up with an exclusive story on Gretchen, Diary of a Fashionista.
The photos in this feature are a delightful mix of La Greta's style files from her vacation and shopping sprees in New York, her various hairstyles through the years, her personal outfits during public appearances, her production-provided wardrobe in past movies, and her own wardrobe used in the prime-time starrer Magkaribal—the project that allows La Greta to merge her love for fashion and for acting.
The outfits are well-documented, not for vanity but for practicality, says her handler Bettina Aspillaga. Bettina, who took most of the shots, explains the setup in Magkaribal: "We need to document for continuity, so that we'll know the pieces that we've used for a specific scene."
As for her accessories, Gretchen lets YES! pick shots from her computer, where lie her extensive private collection of shoes, handbags, designer jewelry and luggage from international brands Chanel, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Hermès and Goyard, to name a few.
YES! also shows Gretchen wearing the pieces of top designers Inno Sotto, Jojie Lloren, Ivarluski Aseron, Gian Romano, and Mich Dulce, who share their thoughts on Gretchen's fashion sense.
Premier makeup artist and stylist Patrick Rosas, who has become Gretchen's friend through the years, says, "Gretchen knows how to dress up properly... [She] already has a beautiful canvas. All I have to do is enhance her."
Inno Sotto agrees. "She's a star. I can make her wear a sando, something cut out like a sando, and it will look good," the equally iconic designer tells YES!
In addition, the September issue of YES! has a 13-page special that gives a glimpse into the personality of President Benigno C. Aquino III, or simply "P-Noy." The special features photographs from the day of his inauguration as president and the subsequent street party in Quezon Memorial Circle to celebrate his victory.
Then YES! talks to the people close to and around the President, as they share varied anecdotes that, put together, paint a picture of the man behind the presidency.
An Aquino relative, Maria Vargas Montelibano, notes that P-Noy is indeed his mother's and father's son. She refers to him as "Cory and Ninoy incarnate" and tells YES! magazine: "The Ninoy DNA is so strong that there are times I am moved to tears when he acts or sounds like him."
The September issue of YES!—which also features the life story of Pilipinas Got Talent winner Jovit Baldivino and the condominium unit of Jake Cuenca—is available in newsstands, bookstores, and supermarkets nationwide. A digital edition of YES! is also available for international subscribers, CLICK HERE for more details.

Another thing for GB! Indulge yourself seriously with
something you can contribute to the well being of women in the fashion world. Never Mind Charity! For ex: patronage Phils. Most Talented Fashion Designers in the local scene. Wear their clothes and alleviate the plight of the promising fashion designers of the Phils. creating clothes wt phil. native products and raw materials. In that sense, you promote our GDP growth, products and promote the love of own designers than Prada, Chanel, etc! Pluse, without spending so much money coming from TBC. You promote self sufficiency wt motto of : mahalin ang sariling disenyo at produkto ng ating bansa!
Wear Flipflops of fil. designers. Wear Filipino Tshirts, Jeans or shoes from Mar
You`re doing Ms. G. Barreto a big damn favor here. You must be her personal coach or counsellor. Just what the hell Mr. Abunda being paid for as mentor-manager by Mr. TBC after all those years?
Surely, GB can be more than how people perceived her nationwide . She can be a good fashion model, a martial art beauty, or authentic filipino designers`endorser for a good cause, etc.

16:54 PM Gretchen and Tony are common-law husband and wife. Kung ano meron sya, bigay yon ng asawa nya, share nya sa relationship nila. Fortunate sya na yung partner nya mayaman. Wala naman syang inapakan nung naging sila kasi separated na non si Tony.
..
Korek.. natumbok mo - binigyan sya ng anak, magkasama pa rin sila after so many years and obvious naman na walang paki si Tony sa pera nya kapalit ng pagiging loyal ni Gretchen sa kanya. Inggit sila teh!!!
If all you can say is you like and Gretchen for who she is, then okay. Maybe you should lay off telling people how they should feel about her.
But if you are going to try to defend Gretchen, you should probably follow the arguments instead of emotionally thrashing about. Otherwise, you're not helping her case. Instead, you're underscoring my point that who she is now is a catering to a crowd that is equally as shallow - something that someone like Gretchen doesn't want. And by someone like Gretchen I mean someone is so desperate to be accepted as someone who is a cut above the rest.
----
This is a poor analogy. For one thing, your example is about choosing between two professional careers, a rather personal choice. No one is asking Gretchen to choose between two different careers. Rather, the analysis centers on the effectiveness of her intent. I know you don't listen, but I'm going to try again: Gretchen publishes her belongings not because of the money she gets in exchange of it - she boasts of her shoes, bags, and jewelry because she gets off from people desiring what she has. And I argued that if this is what she wants - she should probably publish something desirable, like a respectable product, be it her work, good did, or a physical activity that shows the strength of her mind or her body.
--- Uhm, okay : You're not helping Gretchen here. SO, I'm going to point out what you're implying again - if Gretchen's happiness hinges on disclosing to the public her THINGS, then let her be. So you see nothing wrong with her behavior, that's clear. But you're not arguing either that this is really what she is all about - a woman who prices herself based on her things and the admiration of people because of the things she buys? Simply put: she's shallow and you're okay with it. I doubt Gretchen is okay with being shallow - so people who care about her ought to point out to her...that maybe she can pitch herself differently, unless of course she truly is a vapid human being who has nothing much to offer the world. In which case, you're right - let her be, since there seems to be people like you who enjoys that :
- - - -
LOL. Uhm, I guess I win this argument. You can usually tell when people who know nothing about you start attacking your global persona. But I assure you, I Gretchen Barretto is not a person I will envy. Any educated person will not be jealous of Gretchen because I said, over and over again...her actions indicate that despite her material possessions, she doesn't understand what she has and behaves like a hallow person.
aiveec, 49: She shows off her stuff because that's what makes her happy.
---- You don't seem to follow my analysis deeply enough. You also seem to not listen because of your bias. Well and good. Be a fan and adore away. It doesn't change the facts and the perception.
If what you're saying is, leave Gretchen alone, then what you're really saying is you think where she is just fine. I disagree.
I think Gretchen needs to be made aware of how she comes off: vapid. The reason for this push is the belief that she is capable of realizing loftier aspirations.
With money, anyone can look good - what with plastic surgery, enhancements, the right clothes, the right lighting, the right make-up, the right haircut. Look at Manny Pacquio's wife or even Kris Aquino. Gretchen needs something more than looks and accessories.
Gretchen Barretto needs SUBSTANCE.
Those who do serious charity work tend to be illuminated. They become aware of of social injustices like poverty. They are usually genuinely inspired to help those in need - not add insult to their injury by wantonly flaunting their wealth.
Going to a gala and signing a check is not the kind of charity work I'm talking about. This is not to say that kind of contribution is meaningless. But when I say she should use her money constructively while getting what she wants - admiration of the public - she should probably lay some serious investments in charitable work. And when you do something like that, there will be no need for a big announcement - people will know. Organizations that are dedicated to cure social ills will know and they will talk about it.
I guess Gretchen is interested in having a certain part of the population talk about her - those interested in ridiculously priced shoes and bags, I guess?
As critical as this sounds, d
Do not forget that Gretchen gives lots of money and material things to SEVERAL charities and fund raising programs.

You might be right, but that's probably because you are privy to her charitable donations for whatever reason. But when people talk about Gretchen Barretto, charity does not come to mind. Mostly because of her own portrayal of herself to the public.
Being glaringly wealthy does not preclude charity. The late Princess Diana, for example, was wealthier by any measure than GB - but people know that she did serious charity work. Angelina Jolie, arguably a ton wealthier than GB - and by her own merit - also is known for her charity work. Oprah, definitely wealthier than GB, and people know of her charity work.
But I doubt any of them would agree for a magazine of the type and size of YES! to publish their personal possessions as a selling point for the magazine and to line their personal pockets for a measly amount

People will admire Gretchen if she uses her money constructively - and not just feeding her materialistic desires and pathological need for an audience while she indulges in a frivolous activity.
