Sam Milby doesn't feel threatened with the entry of foreigners who want to try their luck in local show business. In fact, he gladly welcomes them to the industry.
The Filipino-American walked the ramp with Brazilian celebrities Fabio Ide and Daniel Matsunaga at the launch of Blue Water Day Spa's Innovating Wholeness Fun Run last Thursday, September 2, at Encore Superclub, Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City.
The former Pinoy Big Brother housemate said, "Of course, there's always gonna be mas guwapo, mas talented, mas magaling na darating, na nandito na. Ako, nag-e-enjoy lang ako. I mean, after five years and nandito pa ako, may trabaho pa ako, feeling blessed talaga ako dahil ang daming dumarating... Never akong nagduda kung may trabaho ako or kung may susunod na project. ABS-CBN is always taking care of me. So, very, very thankful ako."
One of the blessings Sam is now being thankful for is his part in ABS-CBN's upcoming musical dramedy Idol. He said this TV series is more demanding than his previous projects but it's more fun.
"It's a lot of work kasi magre-record pa, sometimes you have to rehearse. Basta masaya naman kasi first love ko is music, sabay naman ang trabaho and music, so I'm happy."
His character Vince, he said, is different from past roles he has portrayed.
"Lahat ng mga dating roles ko sa teleserye, siyempre medyo dramatic or masungit. Itong sa Idol mas lighter. Maraming comedy sa teleseryeng ito. Dito, I'm still trying to work on lightening my character, siyempre, lalo na sa Tagalog. Well, expect a lighter role, a fun role."
WORKING WITH SARAH. He had really looked forward to doing Idol because of the chance to work with his "idol" Sarah Geronimo.
"I'm a fan," he said, also admitting that he got nervous during his first taping day with the Popstar Princess.
"Medyo, kasi bilang isang fan, sobrang ganda ng boses niya, e. Ang ganda-ganda ng boses niya. Kahit naka-record na ang songs ko at live siya, ang ganda-ganda ng boses niya," he said.
The singer-actor went on to say though that his admiration didn't automatically mean he was going to court Sarah.
"Siyempre, ayaw ko naman gamitin 'yong dahil may project kami kaya dapat ligawan ko siya. I'm just enjoying working with her. She's very, very good at what she does, magaling, napakabait, napaka-grounded, very dedicated sa trabaho niya. You know, she works so hard and I admire her talaga."
NO DATE FOR THE STAR MAGIC BALL? On Sunday, September 5, ABS-CBN's talent arm Star Magic will hold its 4th Star Magic Ball at the Shangri-La hotel in Makati City. During this annual event, the invited media always look forward to seeing which celebrity will date whom for the night.
Last year, Sam arrived with his now ex-girlfriend Anne Curtis. Who will be his date at the star-studded event this year?
"Wala akong date," answered a smiling Sam. He said he's not dating anyone exclusively, but he is aware that Anne is now going out with young businessman Erwan Heusaff.
He said it doesn't affect him to see his former girlfriend with somebody new. Instead, "Happy ako sa kanya. Kung happy siya, happy ako sa kanya. You know, it's fine, we're okay."
The Kapamilya actor said that he knows Erwan, so he approves of whatever relationship he has with Anne.
"Mukhang happy siya, so, happy ako para sa kanya," ended Sam.
