James Franco reportedly skipped his own Oscar bash after being slammed for his awards-show hosting skills.

The 127 Hours star—who received a critical drubbing for his performance alongside Anne Hathaway at yesterday's (February 27) show—had planned to throw an exclusive party at the Supper Club after the ceremony but instead left Los Angeles straight away.

A source revealed that while some stars—including Seth Rogen, Kevin Spacey and actors from TV show 90210 were all in attendance—the party was a "bust."

However James, 32, who is studying at both Yale and New York Universities, took to his twitter account to explain his absence, claiming he had to return to classes.

He wrote: "Goodbye L.A.. It was fun! Time to head back to class."

Industry bible The Hollywood Reporter had slammed the star as seeming "distant" and "uninterested" in proceedings at the event at the Kodak Theater last night.

Writer Tim Franco said: "Anne Hathaway at least tried to sing and dance and preen along to the goings on, but Franco seemed distant, uninterested and content to keep his Cheshire-cat-meets-smug smile on display throughout.

"What was the point, Academy? What did Franco bring to the table? His appearance played more like one of his performance art pieces than an actual attempt to be host.

"A bad and risky idea, letting two actors host, proved out in spectacularly unwatchable fashion on the biggest of all nights for the film world."

james didn't try to host and anne tried too hard - it was just too painful to watch. this was a bad idea from the beginning. the oscar show has been lacking a good host since billy crystal declined to come back. the best host after billy was hugh jackman, in my opinion. haven't the oscar producers learned their lesson yet, find a likeable stand up comedian, and stay away from those who are too political. we need to stay awake for 4 hours!

Both were spectacularly lousy. They won't be invited back as hosts next year for sure.

James Franco is okay as a host. Di naman kasi sya comedian like Billy Crystal pero who can forget this cute guy as the nemesis of Toby Maguire sa Spiderman, dun pa lang sa spidey movies sobrang na cute an ako sa kanya, bagay na maging nemesis ni spidey.

The Oscars host in the past were comedians. Ang galing ng mga monologue nila especially during the opening. This year's opening looked like the opening of MTV Movie Awards. Tapos yung dialogue nila walang substance. Every year ina-acknowledge ng host ang presence ng mga nominees and attendees. This year si Mark Wahlberg lang ang napakilala tapos wala pang kadatingdating.

I agree with the critics. Umpisa palang malaki ang difference ng energy nila ni Anne Hathaway. Si Anne punong puno ng energy while James just stood there and smile. Their skit where Anne had to sing in a suit then James entered in a dress projected James' loss of interest and dismay.

I remember this actor in the movie "THE GREAT RAID" with Cesar Montano. He's the one that looks like James Dean. Too bad, I have read that their movie was a flop at the box office.

i think james did a great job hosting the OScars. this awarding has never been fun anyways, it's actually more of a fashion show rather than an awards night!! all i can say is that job well done james and anne!!
