Manny Pangilinan's PLDT to buy JG Summit's Digitel

Kinumpirma na ng Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) ang balitang bibilhin nito ang majority shares ng Digitel Telecommunications Philippines Inc. (DTPI), ang operator ng Sun Cellular.



Ayon sa ulat ng GMA News Online ngayong araw, March 29, 51.5 percent ang balak na kuhanin ng PLDT mula sa DTPI. Matatapos umano ang transaksyon sa second quarter ng 2011.



Ang business tycoon na si Manny Pangilinan ang may-ari ng PLDT. Bukod dito, pag-aari rin ni Pangilinan ang Red Mobile at ang Smart Communications.



Si Pangilinan din ang may-ari ng TV5. May shares din siya sa Meralco.



Dahil sa pagkakakuha ni Pangilinan sa DTPI, dalawa na lamang ang competitors sa local mobile telecom market: ang PLDT at Globe Telecom.

Samantala, ang pamilya Gokongwei naman ang namamahala ng JG Summit Holdings, Inc., na dating namamahala sa DTPI.



[Ang Summit Media, kasama ang PEP, ay nasa ilalim din ng JG Summit. Hindi apektado ang mga ito sa sale ng Sun Cellular.]

    share swap po nangyari. bumili si pldt kay jgs ng 51.55 percent, si jgs bumili naman ng 12 percent kay pldt. smart at sun na ngayon magkasama.

    monopoly.. monopoly.... yan ang utak nitong si Manny Pangilinan... ma-control ang presyo... para di bababa ang kita... sakit sa ulo kasi ni Pangilinan ang Sun Cellular dahil sa mga promo nito.... pag nabili nito ang MRT, siguradong sobrang taas ang pamasahe....

    actually ceo siya ng first pacific which is yung may pinaka malaking shares ng PLDT meron talagang may hawak sa kanya na international businessman alam naman halos lahat ng tao yun. kasi if you're going to look at it wala man siya sa forbes top 40 richest d2 sa pinas.

    OK NAMAN SA AKIN SI MANNY PANGILINAN kaso I AGREE kung 2 na lang ang mag cocompete, SMART and GLOBE, MAGMAMAHAL nanaman for sure ang rates gaya ng dati because of SUN CELLULAR naglabasan yang UNLITXT na yan!!! MANNY PANGILINAN is A BIG THREAT TO ABS and GMA 7 FOR SURE!!! dadaanin sa PERA yan PIPIRATIN ang mga BIG TALENTS ng ABS at GMA 7!

    hindi kaya siya dummy ng isang bilyonaryong Manny. I can't believe the former Executive of PLDT can be the owner of several big Company in the Philippines in just few years. Pag-usapan naman natin ang yaman ni MVP ng malinawan ang merong doubt sa kanyang na acquire na kayaman. Kanino mapupuntaang kanyang kayaman pag siya ay wala na.

    It could be recalled that SUN changed the pricing of cellullar rates. It introduced the unlimited talk. Because of that, Smart and Globe followed suit. Without a maverick mobile network, or a "third force," happy days are here again for Globe and Smart. Bad for consumers.

    he is slowly thinning the competition in the telecommunications industry. this is bad..the more competitors the better. dahil dyan asahan na tataas ang overall charge rates.

    Kinda concerned with this development. This situation brings to mind the scenario here in the US wherein ATT is in talks to buy T-Mobile. Why do the SEC and NTC allow this purchase? I see the red flag of oligopoly being raised. Will consumer interest be sacrificed?
