"You cannot put someone down just because meron pagkukulang. Meron naman tayong pagkukulang but that doesn't mean I'm less of a person. Nakakapikon. I think we should just stop now," said Gretchen Barretto before cutting an interview short. In this photo, a much calmer Gretchen is seen with Tonyboy Cojuangco.

In a photo shoot last June 16, Thursday, Gretchen Barretto took the time to talk with reporters regarding her upcoming teleserye, Alta, wherein she will be able to act opposite Angelica Panganiban, KC Concepcion, and Sam Milby.

This will mark Gretchen's return to acting after being part of ABS-CBN's fashionserye, Magkaribal.

Gretchen described her initial meeting with the cast of Alta.

"I think this will really be a successful show because the cast is very talented.

'Angelica has a lot of appeal and I think KC is really growing as an actress with each project that she has.

"Sam is so endearing, no wonder their film [Forever and a Day] is such a big hit," she said.

During this interview, one reporter asked her about finishing third year high school compared to her daughter Dominique who is now attending college.

Gretchen reportedly got offended and cut the interview short.

Before leaving the studio, the actress was quoted by ABS-CBN's TV Patrol as saying, "Does it matter at this point, because you cannot put someone down just because meron pagkukulang.

"Meron naman tayong pagkukulang but that doesn't mean I'm less of a person. Nakakapikon.

"I think we should just stop now."

Later on, Gretchen and partner Tonyboy Cojuangco made an appearance at the Lobby Lounge of Shangri-La Hotel Makati for an event dubbed as the Fashion Watch Quartet.

La Greta had visibly cooled down and allowed herself to be interviewed again by the media.

She clarified what happened by saying, "I did not walk out.

"I just believe that people have a choice.

"When there's something you don't want to deal with you can walk away.

"If you don't like the situation and you feel it's sticky, walk away.

"We're all just human to get affected; I hope other media people can understand that."

It will be recalled that in April 2011, Gretchen hastily left a press conference after being questioned regarding her supposed rift with sister Claudine Barretto.  (CLICK HERE to read related article.)

Sharon Cuneta is impressively smart. She is very articulate, even more articulate than her daughter KC. She speaks with substance. I don't know where she went. I heard she spent only one year in I.S. so I.S. had little bearing. I also find Kris Aquino very smart. I think Kris went to Poveda for grade school and San Agustin for high school. Nobody can beat Sharon and Kris in the "talk" department.

These so-called journalists aren't only being insensitive, they're the types who really want to push the buttons of the person they're interviewing so that they could post an article that was taken totally out of context. Can you imagine what they could have done if Greta made any type of comment about her daughter's college education? They could insinuate basically anything, like she's bitter or jealous, and Greta can protest all she wants but the headline will stay in people's minds.

Am with you greta. Kung ano man ang natapos nung so called reporter na nagtanong sa yo, sya yung nag mukhang hindi nakatapos. That was harsh and crude. There are just those who have nothing better to do than try to ruin your day.

Showbiz reporters, please let's not confuse them with real journalists, are not well respected because of incidents like this. Buti na lang may nakakatapat silang katulad ni Gretchen Barreto na lalayasan sila if they are way too out of line. Many showbiz personalities endure such insensitive questioning and very seldom do we see someone like Gretchen Who will put an an abrupt end to interviews. Maybe if more celebrities stand up against 'pinabili lang ng suka' people who conveniently call themselves reporters, mababawasan ang ganyang tanungan.

kung wala din lang matinong itatanong, wag na lang magtanong it's not an issue kung tapos or hindi ang isang tao, artista man o hindi, may mali sa society natin, we look down at people who did not finish college

Wow, PEP! Are you guys trying to be like The Huffington Post? At least they have the decency to cite their source. The content of this piece was put together from TV Patrol report. I'm sure because I watched the entire thing on TFC. You could have atleast attempted to write the article from the journalist who threw the question that made Gretchen walk out, er, away. If this was done here in the US, you could be sued for plaigiarism and copyright infringement, you know.

reporters are sometimes really insensitive. Not being able to finish college doesn't mean your not smart. Like Sharon Cuneta she did not even finish High School yata but she's smart. Saw her twice on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire both times naka 1M sya.

hindi rin ako agree s tanong ng reporter n yun. be sensitive naman, alam nmn ng lahat n di sya nktapos ng degree and not surprising n di nya rin natapos high school. choice ng tao yun, nag busy s showbiz para kumita then ginamit nya ang beauty nya para maging komportable s buhay so what, katawan nmn nya yun at kung ano man ang kasalan nya s mata ng Diyos, let God judge her not us. kahit sister nmn nyang si claudine di rin nktapos yata college or bk khit high school din, sharon cuneta too no degree pero intellectual n tao, ung pagpasok nila s showbiz ang reason kaya nag taken back seat ang studies but they can still pursue and finish a course if they want, not too late. Pero yung parang you're trying to put the person down because of lack of education, maling mali tlga.

people who are sensitive to criticisms have problems with their self-worth. kahit sinabi pa ni gretchen na people have choices, the fact that she wasn't comfortable with the question, that could be an indication that her not finishing a degree is something she's not proud of. kadalasan, they compensate their feeling of not being good enough sa ibang bagay.

Oo nga naman, nakakapikon nga naman yung tanong na ganyan, parang degrading nga naman para ke Greta. Just because someone didn't attend college doesn't make them less of a person or less intelligent...yung Auntie ko Grade 5 lang natapos pero naging successful business woman siya...huwag masyadong judgmental..

I appreciate Gretchen's ability to stand up for herself. Siguro dahil na rin sa daming bumabatikos sa kanya and her choices. The media will say anything, work any angle just to get a story. At least they'd realize that offensive sila. If ibang artisa yun, na-offend nga pero kailangan silang makisama eh. They need projects and publicity para mabuhay.

that lack of formal education doesn't make one uneducated in her ways. Take the high road and answer the question in an educated way. Walking away is not one of those ways.

Obviously her lack of formal education is a sensitive issue to Gretchen Barretto that's why she walked away from the media. She can argue that walking away is not synonymous to walking out but the effect is the same. Media touched a raw nerve that's why she walked away or out. What she needs to do is to think of a good come back to the question about her education, or lack of it. She can be the bigger person and say that this is the least of all her achievements but it is never too late to get an education so she plans to do something about it. She can say she highly values education and is proud of her daughter who is in college. She doesn't have to go into details about why she did not graduate from high school. I think the reason is she had to work because she was the breadwinner for her family and that's not something to be ashamed about - though she doesn't have to go there. Using the power of words, which she is very capable of, she can turn this into an inspiring moment. She can also show t
