Here are the top winners of the 27th Star Awards for Movies held last night, June 21, at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of the Resorts World Hotel Manila, Pasay City:

Chosen best actess was Ai-Ai delas Alas for her farcical portrayal of a mother in the last installment of Star Cinema's blockbuster comedy, Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last Na 'To).

Matinee idol Coco Martin bagged the best actor trophy for his portrayal of a broadcast journalist who followed President Noynoy Aquino on the campaign trail in the semi-documentary indie film, 'Noy.

Chosen best supporting actress was Eugene Domingo, who played Ai Ai's best friend in Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last Na 'To), while Tirso Cruz III was voted best supporting actor for his performance as a government agent who betrayed his left-wing comrades in Joel Lamangan's political drama, Sigwa, a digital indie film nominee.

The awards for Movie of the Year and Movie Director of the Year also went to Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last Na 'To), and its director, Wenn Deramas.

It also won awards for best child performer (Xyriel Manabat) and Movie Editor of the Year (Marya Ignacio).

On the other hand, a total of  four Star trophies were won by the epic musical Emir, directed by Chito Roño.

Emir won for its outstanding musical score by Josefino "Chino" Toledo and for best movie original theme song ("Bakit Ako Naririto," composed by Gary Granada, interpreted by Frenchesca Farr); also, for the film's cinematography (Neil Daza) and original screenplay (Jerry Gracio).

The two Martinez films won an award each. Albert Martinez's period drama Rosario won best production design (Joey Luna and Miki Hahn); while Chris Martinez's romantic-comedy Here Comes The Bride tied for the best child performer award (Timothy Chan) with Ang Tanging Ina's Xyriel Manabat.

Regal Entertainment's horror trilogy Shake, Rattle & Roll XII has a winner in one of its episodes, "Punerarya,"  directed by Jerrold Tarog.

The third part of the trilogy won awards for best sound engineering (Lamberto Bebet Casas) and New Movie Actress of the Year (Carla Abellana).

Meanwhile, the New Movie Actor of the Year award was won by newcomer Martin del Rosario for a Cinema One Originals 2010 entry, Dagim.

DIGITAL CATEGORIES. Jerrold Tarog's other film, Senior Year, won in the Digital Independent Film category—for best digital screenplay and best digital musical score, both credited to  the auteur indie filmmaker.

But the most number of awards in the digital indie category went to Joel Lamangan's Sigwa, a Cinemalaya 2010 Directors' Showcase entry, about "left-leaning" college friends and how they cope with the  tumultuous events surrounding the First Quarter Storm of the early '70s.

Aside from the best supporting actor award won by Tirso Cruz III, Sigwa won digital movie of the year and Lamangan's first award as "indie" film director.
