Shamcey Supsup of the Philippines finished as 3rd runner-up in the Miss Universe 2011 pageant held at the Credicard Hall in Sao Paulo, Brazil earlier today, September 13.

Angola's Leila Lopes bested 88 other competitors to win the the title of Miss Universe.

Lopes, 25, was also the crowd favorite, getting the loudest cheers from the audience. She is the first candidate from Angola to win the crown.

Olesia Stefanko of Ukraine was the 1st runner-up, while Brazil's Priscila Machado was 2nd runner-up, and China's Luo Zilin was 4th runner-up.

This is the second year in a row that a candidate from the Philippines made it to the Top 5 of Miss Universe. Venus Raj finished 4th runner-up last year.

The Philippines has two Miss Universe winners: Gloria Diaz won the crown in 1969 and Margie Moran repeated the feat in 1973.

In the question-and-answer portion, Shamcey was asked by judge Vivica A. Fox: Would you change your religious beliefs to marry the person you love?

Shamcey, who was the only candidate among the Top 5 who did not use an interpreter, answered:

"If I had to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person that I love because the first person that I love is God who created me. And I have my faith and my principles and this is what makes me who I am. And if that person loves me, he should love my God too."

Interestingly, Angola's question came from Filipino judge Lea Salonga: "If you could change one of your personal characteristics, which one would it be and why?"

To which, Leila replied through an interpreter: "Thank God, I’m very well satisfied with the way God created me and I would not change a thing. I consider myself a woman with inner beauty. I have my principles. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family and I plan to follow this through the rest of my life."

The candidates who made it to the Top 10 are: Australia, Costa Rica, France, Panama, and Portugal, who won the online poll which automatically put her in the semifinals.

Top 16 semifinalists are: Kosovo, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Netherlands, USA, and Venezuela.

Special awards were given to Panama (Best National Costume), Montenegro (Miss Congeniality), and Sweden (Miss Photogenic)

Last year's winner was Ximena Navarrete of Mexico.

Religion divides people. Love unites people. Why choose religion over love? I would rather be romantic than religious.

i watch again the Q and A portion of Miss U.. IM MY OWN OPINION di pala the best ang answer ni miss shamcey.. yeah tama na she should not change her religion but she must not require the guy to love her God! what she only need is RESPECT of her religious beliefs vice versa.. she should have stressed the value of RESPECT not necessarily to embrace and love the God of the other.. again it all boils down to respect and unconditional love between the couple nonetheless CONGRATS SHAMCEY! ang makapasok nga lang sa top 16 is a big thing yung maging 3rd runner up pa kaya!!!

Congrats Shamcey!!! For me okay lang na si Angola nanalo kasi kahit hindi sya maputi maganda pa din sya at masarap titigan dahil lalo sya gumaganda pag tumatagal. Ganun talaga para kay Angola ang korona. Let's just be thankful at naka-place din ang Pinas. Malay natin next time representative na natin manalo.

maraming magkakaibang religion na iisa ang paniniwala, katulad ng baptist, protestant, katoliko, etc. lahat yan kristiyano, lahat naniniwala kay God.. if thats the case i dont mind changing my religion into his. pero kung ang religion niya ay budhist, muslim, hindu or kung anuman na hindi naniniwala sa diyos, hindi siguro.. having said that i think shamcey's answer is great. if thats her conviction then so be it.

dapat cnabi niya " I WOULD NOT CHANGE MY RELIGION. HE HAS TO RESPECT THE FAITH I AM DEVOTEDLY ATTACHED TO AS IT WOULD MEAN HIS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE FOR ME. IN THE SAME MANNER, I WILL ALSO RESPECT HIS RELIGION." hay, this took me just seconds to think of. mas ok pa ung major major answer ni venus kc walang nagmanifest na prinsipyo o character. shamcey lumabas na may pagkaselfish cya and unaccommodating to the underlying principle that all peoples in the universe must not be undivided because of religious affiliations. mananalo sna cy as miss universe kung tama answer niya kc actually, lahat naman d o ang answer. c angola nga ang haba tsaka not actually sinagot ang question ni lea out of question cya. kaya the judgment was based on beauty and elegance kc equal lang cla lahat sa interview. angola really stands out maski black cya. such a beautiful face and sosyal na sosyal magdala ng sarili effortless.

i think neither should change his or her religion.. if you truly love a person one should respect his or her belief.. if a certain couple will not be permitted to a religious wedding ceremony if the other will not change his or her religion might as well opt for a civil wedding..

i dnt think mas mahirap ang tanung nya kc actually madaling masagot ung tnung nya compared dun sa tanung kay venus n tlgang mamemental block ka... kc existing problem n 2ng tanung kay shamcey.. remember Mariel and Binoe n e2 un current status ng problema nila dba... nwei.. its good n nkpasok xa sa Top 5 at 1 achievment n yan n tinalo ntin ang Venezuela, Puerto Rico and USA...

Why so bitter? She's the 3rd runner-up for crying out loud. Can't you be happy and proud of her accomplishment? Your attitude really reflects the mentality, attitude, and being poor sports. Honestly, get over it and be happy for once. That's 2 years in a row that Philippines made the top 5 considering that the other favorites did not even make the cut.

for me shamcey's answer is the best.. tama naman na she will not change her religious beliefs to marry the person she love.. me personally i cant imagine myself changing my religion for instance to muslim or buddhism just to marry the guy i love.. i cant imagine myself worshipping to a buddha etc.. its all about RESPECT i think

Her answer is okay and she did well. But I don't think it was the best and I respect her answer. In my own opinion, as much as I would keep my religion at all cost, I wouldn't leave someone because he wouldn't change his. If I felt strong for mine, he has as much right to stand up for his own religion.
