Nora Aunor smoking photo criticized; YES! editor-in-chief defends the Superstar

"She speaks out now, against perceived hurts, about her sexuality, about her children. She also smokes. This new openness is her chosen expression of who she is today, and that is the reason I chose that photograph. It captures her," says Jo-Ann Maglipon about the pictorial of Superstar Nora Aunor for YES! Magazine.

Robert Reyes, isang PMA volunteer, "The Filipino reading public is not dumb... If you want to be popular again, be wholesome.

"Gusto n'yo ba gayahin ka namin? Ang trabaho n'yo is to inspire us, not to scandalize us."

Dagdag pa niya, "Nora, you are ill-advised. You think you are moving forward, it's a step backwards."

Dagdag pa ng YES! editor-in-chief, "She speaks out now, against perceived hurts, about her sexuality, about her children. She also smokes.

"This new openness is her chosen expression of who she is today, and that is the reason I chose that photograph. It captures her.

"In a perfect world, we will not have anyone smoking or drinking or gambling or lying. Not just in magazines, but out there in the real world...

"But apart from being in an imperfect world, there is the very real concern with freedom of expression, which not even the most well-meaning advocates should trample on."

Nilinaw naman ni Maglipon na sinusuportahan ng YES! ang "smoke-free Philippines" campaign.

"YES! would also like to note that its cover does not in any way flout the no smoking campaign. I am all for that advocacy!

"I would not wish smoking on myself or any of the people I care for. It's deadly," pahayag ni Maglipon.

A million negative comments in this forum will never succeed in erasing Nora's name in the psyche of every Filipino who knows what she has contributed to Philippine cinema and culture. I know that there will always be people who just dislike and hate Nora, who all this time has remained quiet and cool.

Nora, admittedly talented that she is, is really such a waste. Now, she's just uhm, wasted. Ultimately, she only has herself to blame, with all the vices she's engaged herself with, and being surrounded by people of bad influence.

Nora's YES cover is bound to become one of the most controversial, if not THE most controversial YES cover ever. Thanks to those who made a mountain of ashes out of Nora's mole, este, molehill.

Astig na artista ng bayan. Ms. Nora Aunor, you are over and above the moral pygmies here. Wapakelz, your multi-media legacy to Philippine arts and culture is phenomenally world-class and timeless. You are iconic, and those who don't agree with that are merely carcenogenic! Taas kilay lang, bongga ka Guy!

Many people only want to hurt Nora Aunor. Only God knows what goes on in their hearts and minds. If these people do want to help her with their advice or opinions, they could have at least expressed themselves with a little compassion. They tend to make themselves appear and sound cleaner, more moral, more righteous and less sinful.... Just a piece of my mind.

Nora Aunor is surrounded by people who love her. And who are we to say that no one is giving her good advice? So much has been said about the Superstar, both the best and worst of descriptions.... To me we must choose well our choice of words. Other people's opinions are actually NOT always true, factual, fair, decent, responsible, informed and gracious. Degrading and slandering and pulling down a Filipino icon like Nora will produce no good fruits or results at all.

Being in the limelight is a BIG responsibility, if you can't accept that, then, you better remain a private citizen. Freedom has it's responsibility too! Sometimes the past is better left in the past, that's just my two cents. She never kissed someone else' arse, because everyone kissed her arse that is why she turned out to be that way, no one had the B A L L S to tell her that she need to shape up, to stop smoking and drinking because it will ruin her voice. Big stars ruin themselves because no one around them has the guts to tell them what they are doing wrong, lest, they get mad and there goes the money and windfall of the sikat artista to them so called friends.

Ms. Maglipon and Yes Magazine, smoking is so 70s, it is now 2011, smoking is no longer cool, it's now yucky! Ms. Nora must show that she has evolved because her fans should have evolved and matured too. It may not be Ms. Nora's fault and more of the magazine's but she could have questioned the appropriateness of the photo, but then again, that's Ms. Nora never changed, never learned and never grew a brain. Sorry, she's really is a waste, i hope she gets good advise now and sorround herself with people who truly care for her and someone who can also stand up and tell her if she is doing something S T U P I D again!

It is art. She's merely holding a cigarette, did she put it in her mouth, inhaled and exhaled it? Dam ned you moralists! Bible thumpers! if you are, you won't even bother reading this website, or making judgments you have no business in here in the first place. Obviously you like to pretend you are. Wolves in sheeps' clothing. hypocrites! How about an actor actress HOLDING A GUN in a movie poster? Why aren't there people raising H E L L about it? Isn't it guns equals violence? And unlicensed guns and stupid people have been killing people in the Philippines?

I agree with freedom of expression. If Nora feels that exposing this side of her personal life is liberating then it is about time she steps out of that mold the general public have created for her. Her making a come back doesn't mean she has to kiss arse all over again. After all we are not a bunch of hypocrites. We have long stopped with the notion that we have to be liked by everyone to be effective and successful in what we do. As long as she is still credible in her acting -who cares if she smokes or is involved with a younger man. Some people should really try and get a LIFE. and PLEEEEEEASE stop being so condescending.

it's like promoting cigarette or smoking is ok, it's not ok our young people don't need to see something like this kind of cover in a popular magazine. people knows that she smokes does she has to show it in a magazine were children can see. She should be more sensitive with what children can see specially her grandchildren.
