Isang pet blessing ang isinagawa ng Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) kaugnay ng selebrasyon ng World Animal Day kahapon, October 2, sa Eastwood Mall.

Isa sa mga dumalo sa naturang pagtitipon ang direktor na si Jose Javier Reyes.

Si Direk Joey ay nag-adopt ng dalawang three-month-old askals (asong kalye) na pinangalanan niyang Phil at James—na hango sa pangalan ng magkapatid na Phil at James Younghusband, na parehong miyembro ng national football team o Azkals.

Kuwento ng writer-director, "I remember when I was smaller, I remember we had askals, so I decided to adopt two [from PAWS]—James and Phil.

"Because they are askals and I love the Azkals, and I love the [Philippine] Volcanoes, I just... I named them James and Phil."

Dagdag pa niya, "Yung isa na mas attention-seeking, I named Phil.

"Tapos yung isa na tahimik lang, that's James."

PAWS. How did he know about PAWS?

"Direk Rich [Ilustre], whom I met because of Talentadong Pinoy, and he's an advocate of PAWS.

"He was talking about it, I've heard about it, but I've never been there. Then I went there."

How was the experience?

"Oh, God, it was heartbreaking," sambit ni Direk Joey.

"It's very heartbreaking to see how some people can be so cruel to animals.

"There was a dog who was shot, there was a dog na binuhusan ng kumukulong tubig... there were dogs who are abandoned.

"You know, I like their slogan that there is 'beauty beyond breeds,' di ba?
