Lea Salonga reveals why she chose Miss Angola over Shamcey Supsup as Miss Universe 2011

"She came across as very honest and sincere. But how she came across to me could be very different from how she came across to other judges sitting at the table. At the end of the day, she did the best that she could. Given the thirty seconds to answer her question," says Lea Salonga about how Shamcey Supsup fared in the question-and-answer portion of the Miss Universe pageant where Lea was a judge.

"One of the casting directors of the Miss Universe [pageant] sent a note to my manager in the States," banggit ni Lea.

"The only time I saw any of the pictures," kuwento ni Lea, "parang, even playing field kumbaga, they had a souvenir program in my hotel room.

"When I got in, I picked it up, and I went through all.

"That was the only time I looked at everybody."

"No. We were sequestered. We were completely kept away.

"We were in a separate hotel from the candidates. They were at the Hilton, we were at the Hyatt.

"All the communication with any of the candidates, barred.

"It was very strict, and even before we could enter the venue, tinitingnan muna nila kung may bumababang kandidato sa hagdanan.

"Like in dress rehearsal, 'Wait, the candidate is going down.' So, once they passed, then we could get in.

"We can't look at everybody."

Ms. Angola 2011 Leila was gorgeous indeed but check Angola's representative in 2007 si Micaela Reis. OMG!!!! tall, black, young version of salma hayek. many thought she was cheated off the title though she did manage to get in the top 10 sa Ms. Universe and later won 1st runner up sa Ms. World of the same year - 2007.

Hooray to Lea for being recognized by the Walt Disney company. Yes, generations of children will hear her voice through Mulan and Jasmine.

xelamkila, you hit the target. hindi ko maintindihan bakit nagsi celebrate basta naka pasok sa top 5. eh isa lang naman ang winner. si lea, dapat hindi na lang niya sinabi kung sino binoto niya. it should have been confidential.

I find it funny that some people say Lea is insecure of Shamcey. Ang layo na ng narating ni Lea. She is well known in the theatre world and she has accomplished so much for herself and for the country. Her talent is incredible. I admire her because she was a fair judge in the pageant. Deserving talaga manalo si Miss Angola, she stood out and she was more regal than Miss Philippines. Although, Shamcey did very well, mas better pa rin ang overall effect kumbaga ni Miss Angola.

Somebody said "Beauty pageants are only relevant in 3rd world countries!" How true! How true! BTW, GOOD JOB LEA, IDOL!!!

Hay naku only in the philippines talaga.Hindi maka-get over sa pagkatalo. The winner was deserving so why are we still dwelling on this issue where in fact wala naman talagang issue eh.I doubt kung ang ibang bansa pinag-uusapan parin ang Pageant na ito. Look at Youtube, only the Pinoys are rooting for Ms.Philippines.How sad.

Para sa akin its because kita mo sa mga kilos ni Shamcey like sa pagrampa nya na aral lang yung kilos nya and not natural. You can see it in her eyes na she's doing it kasi yun ay kailangan nyang gawin for the country not because she genuinely wants to be Ms. Universe.

Sa layo ng narating ni Lea, hindi sya maiinsecure sa isang Pinay miss universe candidate lang. lea is far better than even the Miss universe and has achieved more than Shamcey will when she gets to Lea's age right now. masyadong mataas ang tingon nyo sa beauty pageants. ano naman kaiinsecuran ni lea kay shamcey?.

Explaining on this issue just drags it more. I have not heard of any judge before who had to explain why they chose a particular candidate. This is a beauty pageant where goodwill and world peace rule supreme over any other requirement. No one is complaining. People are still living on the roof of their houses since the last typhoon, maybe we should ask those millions of people to explain why they chose the present president, I voted for Richard Gordon in close and open parentheses, and let Shamcey bask in the glory of her well deserved win.

Ms. Angolaa has more depth than Shamcey. Shamcey gives motherhood statements and universal cliches for anwers. like the education because-it-cannot-be-taken-away-from-you bit from the Bb pilipinas. and then we all know what she answered during the ms. U pageant. Her interviews after were also surprisingly uninsightful. I get what Lea S. was trying to say here. Obviously Ms. Angola has more depth.

Don't blame Leah..she has her own preference.

Let's not forget, may iba ding mga judges dito. Let's just be happy she made it to the top 5 at si Shamcey na rin mismo ang nagsabi na happy siya sa naging resulta.
