Richard Gomez on having a change of heart about politics: "Alam mo, ang problema kasi, as much as ayaw mong tumakbo, when the people come to you and they clamor for you to run, wala kang magawa, e. When they need help and you know that you can help them, and the way to help them is to be in a political position, then you just have to. But it takes a lot of courage, it takes a lot of thinking too, kaya ako tumakbo."

Sa isang interview noon kay Richard Gomez, sinabi niyang hindi siya tatakbo sa kahit na anong posisyon sa gobyerno.

Sabi pa niya noon, "I won't waste my 20 or 50 million for me to run for a seat."

Pero gaya ng alam ng karamihan, dalawang beses tumakbo sa pulitika ang aktor na kilala rin sa bansag na Goma.

Noong 2007 ay tumakbo siya sa Senado bilang independent candidate ngunit natalo siya.

Noong 2010 elections naman ay tumakbo siya bilang Congressman ng Ormoc City, pero na-disqualify siya dahil sa residency issue. Pinalitan siya ng kanyang misis na si Lucy Torres-Gomez na siyang nagwagi.

Ano nga ba ang dahilan at nagbago ang isip ni Goma tungkol sa pagtakbo sa pulitika?

Paliwanag niya sa PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), "Alam mo, ang problema kasi, as much as ayaw mong tumakbo, when the people come to you and they clamor for you to run, wala kang magawa, e.

"When they need help and you know that you can help them, and the way to help them is to be in a political position, then you just have to.

"But it takes a lot of courage, it takes a lot of thinking too, kaya ako tumakbo.

"Kaya nakita mo naman yung difference ng district namin ngayon, we're now number one in the region.

"Lucy was awarded by the DPWH [Department of Public Works and Highways] as the best-performing district in Region 8.

"Na-turn around namin 'yan after one and a half years, from number 12 ranking namin out of 16 districts."

Ano ang kanilang plano ni Lucy sa 2013 elections?

"Lucy is running for the election. I'll be supporting her," sagot ng aktor.

Hindi na siya ang tatakbo?

Baka naman the best way to help yourself - is what you meant Goma! If you really want to help your countrymen - you dont have to be in politics to do so. All you have to do is to do it - no need to spend on an election - just do it ika nga. Now if your real intention is to help them and in the process help yourself more...thats totally different. Please lang - huwag mo ng dagdagan ang mga taong ginagawang retirement fund ang politics when their career in showbiz has declined nba.

ano?eh ano ang ginagawa ng mga politico sa atin puro pangungurakot ang ginagawa. puede ka naman tumulong sa tao sa ibang paraan na wala ka sa politica. artista ka pumunta ka sa mganabiktima ng earthquake kumanta ka sumayaw ka yakapin mo sila yon Lang siguradong sasaya na sila.

Pero bago ka pumasok sa pulitika,patunayan mo muna na kaya mo ang serbisyong publiko. HIndi yong sasabak ka ng kulang sa experience,or dahil lang sa may nagpapayo sa iyo o naghihikayat na pumasok sa pulitika. Puede ka naman gumawa ng mga projects na makakatulong sa mga tao kahit wala ka pa sa position. Patunayan mo muna na may ballzz ka na makatulong sa marami at hindi sa pansarling interes.

Can you go into politics without opening your mouth because if you can, then you may have a chance of winning. Fact is, every time you say something, you say the most outrageous things, at some point bordering on purely self-belief or stupidity. And though I credit you on your views on loyalty e.g. to your late agent, family and friends... serving this country would require more awesome traits especially if the people you are serving do not belong in any of the categories mentioned above. And yes next time you want to run for a public post again, mention in your profile that you are an Actor and not Businessman and Sportsman only. Remember where you came from, look deep inside you and you may find the man worthy of other people's respect.

I do help a lot of people thru volunteering here in our community and I'm doing it for free in my free time.And I'm not in the politics, punta ka sa Cebu tulungan mo ang mga tao doon give them kahit support man lang.Grabe nawalan ako ng respeto sa iyo.Kaya pala natalo ka 2 times because of that mentality.
