Sa isang interview noon kay Richard Gomez, sinabi niyang hindi siya tatakbo sa kahit na anong posisyon sa gobyerno.

Sabi pa niya noon, "I won't waste my 20 or 50 million for me to run for a seat."

Pero gaya ng alam ng karamihan, dalawang beses tumakbo sa pulitika ang aktor na kilala rin sa bansag na Goma.

Noong 2007 ay tumakbo siya sa Senado bilang independent candidate ngunit natalo siya.

Noong 2010 elections naman ay tumakbo siya bilang Congressman ng Ormoc City, pero na-disqualify siya dahil sa residency issue. Pinalitan siya ng kanyang misis na si Lucy Torres-Gomez na siyang nagwagi.

Ano nga ba ang dahilan at nagbago ang isip ni Goma tungkol sa pagtakbo sa pulitika?

Paliwanag niya sa PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), "Alam mo, ang problema kasi, as much as ayaw mong tumakbo, when the people come to you and they clamor for you to run, wala kang magawa, e.

"When they need help and you know that you can help them, and the way to help them is to be in a political position, then you just have to.

"But it takes a lot of courage, it takes a lot of thinking too, kaya ako tumakbo.

"Kaya nakita mo naman yung difference ng district namin ngayon, we're now number one in the region.

"Lucy was awarded by the DPWH [Department of Public Works and Highways] as the best-performing district in Region 8. 

"Na-turn around namin 'yan after one and a half years, from number 12 ranking namin out of 16 districts."

Ano ang kanilang plano ni Lucy sa 2013 elections?

"Lucy is running for the election. I'll be supporting her," sagot ng aktor.
