The racist allegations about the controversial cover photo of FHM Philippines continue. But its subject, Bela Padilla, reiterates on her interview with BBC World News, "We weren't thinking of harming anyone and we weren't thinking of racial discrimination."

Bela Padilla's controversial cover photo for the March 2012 issue of FHM Philippines continues to become a hot topic that it has now reached international headlines.

The cover photo, which was immediately recalled by FHM Philippines, showed Bela clad in a sexy fuschia bikini and being surrounded by "black" female models.

Below the cover was the blurb: "Bela Padilla: Stepping Out Of The Shadows."

International news agency BBC News picked up the ongoing debate and asked its subscribers whether the allegations of racism was intended on the photograph.

This was posted on BBC's Facebook fan page last night, February 28.

Like what happened on FHM Philippines' Facebook page last weekend, the BBC post was also swarmed by different opinions from its subscribers.

Facebook user Ruth Elias commented: "Definitely racist and offensive. The caption and the body language of the models says it all. They are all submissive."

Joanna Rimmer also posted a similar opinion: "I find it vulgar and yes, rather racist. Sick and tired of seeing women portrayed in this manner."

NO INTENTION TO DISCRIMINATE. However, in her interview with BBC News' Mishal Husain, Bela reiterated that the picture has no intention of discriminating any race.

The GMA-7 talent said, "I don't really have any idea that I would get such negative reaction.

"But I was proud with the cover we did because racism was totally out of our heads.

"So I didn't expect that we'd get negative feedback from it because we had no intention of discriminating anyone anyway."

Bela's interview was broadcast live last night, February 28, on BBC's Impact.

Here is an excerpt of that interview:

Mishal: "When you saw that picture of you and the black model behind you and 'stepping out of the shadows,' it didn't ring any alarm bells to you?

donyame, here's another question, were those chinese and filipinos sold to the americans and forced to get on boats, travelling in squalid conditions where over half of them died, and then forced to work without wages or even any privileges or rights whatsoever? were they sold like cattle to buyers and raped by their owners, and then forced to separate from their families when they were sold off to others? were they forced to give up their identities, treated like animals, and made to suffer for even daring to ask for the right to be treated like people?

what's the point of having that kind of publicity when it's mostly negative? now she'll be known as the girl with the racist cover, how would Bela be able to use that to her advantage? and once again, how was her answer smart? ignore the english for the moment and focus on her reply, was it proper to use black face make up as a defense for the photo shoot? if she was to answer that in an international beauty pageant, the judges would instantly eliminate her due to her offensive and controversial remarks. if bad publicity is still considered good publicity, why would she better than marian rivera then? after all, marian rivera attracts a lot of negative attention, are Bela's defenders now saying she is the next marian rivera? english does not equate intelligence. otherwise, we'd be a lot smarter and more well off than the south koreans and japanese and we all know thats not the case.

donyame, is it just african americans who would feel offended over this cover? what about the aetas, negritos, aborigines, or even indians? you exclusively focused on the african americans, generalizing them as all terrible people, even though there are people like Obama or the growing middle class of African Americans who would disagree with you. I don't think there is anything wrong in calling out Mayweather for his racist comments, but to generalize and stereotype a whole race for a few bad apples in the bunch is a good example of racism. imagine if others would do the same thing to filipinos, would you agree with someone who states that all filipinos are lazy and unproductive just because they may have met a few filipinos who are like that? is that a fair assessment to give to an entire race of people?

we hate our own skin period. one is more likely to succeed in showbiz, if he-she white skinned. usually talga ang mga sumiskat ay whiter than the average pinoy. si nora aunor lang ata ang morenang naging super sikat, although many find her inferior in terms of looks sa kanyang mga counterpart. lovi poe who is very pretty btw is even called "madumi" by many...

if there is one positive note here, eh good for Bella, first time nyang mag-post for FHM..controversial at pina-usapan pa. To FHM or to other publishing company, unsolicited advice lang po. Though your intension was not of racism. Maybe next time you can be extra sensitive specially if you deal with sensitive issues likes discrimation against race, color of skin, sexual preference etc. What you may percieve harmless, maybe offensive to some. yun lang po.

parang nakakahiya ang mga nangyayari because of this. they clearly ran out of idea. the concept is immature and bland. now that FHM has done the right thing, i guess we can now forget the photo, forget the "coming of age" girl. hahaha peace!
