The racist allegations about the controversial cover photo of FHM Philippines continue. But its subject, Bela Padilla, reiterates on her interview with BBC World News, "We weren't thinking of harming anyone and we weren't thinking of racial discrimination."

Bela Padilla's controversial cover photo for the March 2012 issue of FHM Philippines continues to become a hot topic that it has now reached international headlines.

The cover photo, which was immediately recalled by FHM Philippines, showed Bela clad in a sexy fuschia bikini and being surrounded by "black" female models.

Below the cover was the blurb: "Bela Padilla: Stepping Out Of The Shadows."

International news agency BBC News picked up the ongoing debate and asked its subscribers whether the allegations of racism was intended on the photograph.

This was posted on BBC's Facebook fan page last night, February 28.

Like what happened on FHM Philippines' Facebook page last weekend, the BBC post was also swarmed by different opinions from its subscribers.

Facebook user Ruth Elias commented: "Definitely racist and offensive. The caption and the body language of the models says it all. They are all submissive."

Joanna Rimmer also posted a similar opinion: "I find it vulgar and yes, rather racist. Sick and tired of seeing women portrayed in this manner."

NO INTENTION TO DISCRIMINATE. However, in her interview with BBC News' Mishal Husain, Bela reiterated that the picture has no intention of discriminating any race.

The GMA-7 talent said, "I don't really have any idea that I would get such negative reaction.

"But I was proud with the cover we did because racism was totally out of our heads.

"So I didn't expect that we'd get negative feedback from it because we had no intention of discriminating anyone anyway."

Bela's interview was broadcast live last night, February 28, on BBC's Impact.

Here is an excerpt of that interview:

Mishal: "When you saw that picture of you and the black model behind you and 'stepping out of the shadows,' it didn't ring any alarm bells to you?

LOL uli!.

clawclown, you are comparing apples to oranges here. walang offensive sa ginawa ni madonna because she did not refer to her dancers as shadows, or anything else inappropriate. by using the term shadows, and even by the way the black models, who were in black face make up which in itself is r-acist, were looking at bela either in supposed envy or submission is what makes the magazine cover so offensive in the first place. if the models had all been there, standing in the same way as bella did, with the same look of haughtiness and staring into the camera the way bela did, and without the word shadows in the caption, then the cover would not have been racist. capiche?

65 AstroNut February 29, 2012 09:32 AM wag nyo nga i-compare si Angel kay Marian. dahil si Angel kahit HS grad lang eh carry nya makipagusap in English. na-interview sya dati ng isang American reporter noon sa red carpet ng Intl Emmy Awards at nakakasagot sya in straight English. EH SI MARIAN? baka himatayin si Marian sa sobrang takot makipag inglisan, lol -----------------HAHAHA siempre alam na ni Angge ang mga itatanong sa kanya ng isang American reporter noon kaya naman pinag-aralang mabuti ni Angge kung ano yung mga isasagot niya bwahahaha. kikay, how do her answers make sense? bela tried to use black face make up as an excuse to defend the magazine cover, which makes it even worse than it already is. the interviewer himself had to inform her that that's even more offensive than hiring black models for the cover. in case you don't know, black face make up i.e painting yourself black all over, has been deemed rac-ist and inappropriate due to its history. please try reading more, because you are coming across every bit as ig-norant as bela padilla.

clawclown, oh i'm sorry, did madonna ever pose for a photo shoot with the words stepping out of the shadows at all? it's one thing to have black back up dancers but actually posing with models in black face make up, staring at you with a look of envy or shame, with the words stepping out of the shadows, as though the black models themselves are insignificant or unworthy of admiration, is quite another matter altogether.
