Toni Gonzaga stands by anti-Lady Gaga comments: "We should just all respect each others' opinion."

“I’m not convincing anyone or I’m not forcing anyone to agree with me because I was just asked and that’s just how I feel and what I feel at the moment.”

Toni Gonzaga’s statements on Lady Gaga may have come off too strong an opinion.

The actress/host/singer received criticism on social networking site Twitter after expressing her personal take on the international pop singer’s music deemed blasphemous by religious groups.

Toni Gonzaga received much criticism from the public, mostly aired on social networking site Twitter, after exchanging views with her co-hosts Boy Abunda and Charlene Gonzales-Muhlach on The Buzz last Sunday afternoon, May 20.

The three talk show anchors were discussing the protests by religious fundamentalists against American pop superstar Lady Gaga who held a two-day concert in Manila on Monday (May 21) and Tuesday (May 22) night.

“Personally, I liked Lady Gaga before, especially yung first song pa lang niya,” initially said Toni who, after a while, ceased listening to the international pop singer’s provocative music.

“Napansin ko na medyo nga nagkakaroon ng double meaning yung mga succeeding songs niya, I stopped listening to her music,” added the actress/host/singer.

Lady Gaga's songs “Born This Way,” “Bad Romance,” “Poker Face,” and “Judas” have been reckoned blasphemous and said to be promoting “satanic teaching” by conservative groups.

When Charlene said during their usual panel discussion, “I really like Lady Gaga and I think you can choose the good and leave out the bad,” Toni was quick to retort, “No, but hindi ba, you are what you listen to? Kung ano yung pinakikinggan mo, eventually, subconsciously, nagiging ganun na rin, it affects your mind, especially music.”

The 28-year-old reaped negative remarks for such comments, some calling her a “hypocrite,” “close-minded,” and mockingly labeling her the country’s very own “lady gaga.”

At the official launching of Toni Gonzaga as the new ambassador of Coke Zero, today, May 23, at The Gallery, Greenbelt 5, Makati City, the multimedia personality defended herself when questioned about the statements she made on national television.

“Yes, I am aware that I was being bashed and being named names. I was being called a hypocrite and trying to be righteous, but I believe I merely stated my personal opinion,” Toni started.

“I’m not convincing anyone or I’m not forcing anyone to agree with me because I was just asked and that’s just how I feel and what I feel at the moment.

According to Toni, she did not feel like she “condemned” or “judged anyone” because it was a “general statement” she just gave.

“That’s how I feel about it and I think that we should just all respect each others’ opinion just like how I respect their opinion towards me,” she told her critics.

RESPECT FOR LADY GAGA. Maintaining her perspective on Lady Gaga’s music, Toni relayed, “I used to be a fan of her songs before and I must admit that I used to listen to her and I used to perform her songs.

“But it’s just that lately, there are some things that she does and there are some lyrics in the song that I personally felt uncomfortable [with]. So, I decided to stop listening to her songs.”

Despite this, Toni said she still respects Lady Gaga as an artist.

sometimes when we think the songs are evil it's only because we don't understand the songs.

When did Toni say that liking Lady Gagga's songs will make you a demon? Are u deaf? That's a wrong interpretation of what she said. She was asked her opinion and she said it truthfully and she is right. Music, just like movies, words, experiences, have an effect in one's life. How will a child learn to say the F word , if he never heard it in his life? That's just an example. It does not necessarily follow all those who heard the F word will say it, though. That's not the point.

leave toni alone. nakaka influence daw ang mga songs. cut the poor girl some slack, coz she is easily influenced by what she listens to. stop watching tv and movies as well. there's plenty of sex, violence, perversion, e, alam niyo na, madali siyang ma influence.

Toni is right. Read the behavioral studies conducted by American Psychological Association and other articles written by other psychologists and spiritual leaders. These are knowledgeable people when it comes to human behavior and spiritual behavior. Please read these articles on "YOU ARE WHAT YOU LISTEN TO" : from website of theskooloflife thebaptistvoice the American Psychological Association The word "music" comes from the root word muse which means “to be absorbed in thought.” That’s what music does, it absorbs our conscious and subconscious minds and directs those thoughts either in spiritual or unspiritual directions

Liking Lady Ga.ga’s songs won’t make you a demon. Same as listening to Hillsongs' music won’t make you a saint.

Toni is not just smart but well-grounded. Toni Gonzaga has basis for saying "You are what you listen to". Unfortunately, some people were not thinking and interpreted that line literally. It is a figure of speech. There are studies - both medical and spiritual that prove this relationship. TONI DID NOT JUST MAKE UP THAT LINE! She's not stupid to do that. That is not something new. That line has been used often in behavioral studies.

Bakit toni sino ka ba as compared to lady g.ga? I'm no fan of lady g.ga but I find your comments really ss.tt.uu.pp.ii.dd and ss.hh.aa.ll.ll.oo.ww So if I love to listen to adele songs that doesn't mean brokenhearted ako, in fact ikakasal na nga ako eh and people who listens to rock music aren't necessarily rakista or someone who listens to hiphop music doesn't equate to being a hiphop also. Sobrang bb.oo.bb.oo lang talaga ng comment mo at nakaka ii.rr.ii.tt.aa rin ang pagmu.muka mo. Self righteous!

I like Toni but I don't agree with her on this and that doesn't mean that I have to say bad things to Toni because we have opposite view on LadyGaga. But, I want to remind people here that before you say that she's ipocrita and disclose her personal life, look at yourselves. I'm a teacher of kids with special needs, those of you who are making fun of 'Duling' mahiya kayo. Gaano ba kayo kaperfect? I have students like them and we don't want others to make fun of them. Stick with the issue, state your opinion why you disagree with Toni's hindi yung kapansanan eh pagtatawanan.
