“I’m feeling good. I’m so happy for Phillip, and I’m so glad that it’s over. He’s happy that it’s over,” says American Idol runner-up Jessica Sanchez when asked  how she felt after the finale.

“I think America made the right choice,” said Jessica Sanchez about  being defeated by Phillip Phillips in the recently concluded American Idol Season 11.

The half-Mexican, half-Pinay Idol hopeful finished second during its finale yesterday, May 24, but she never felt disappointed about the result.

In an interview with Adam Vary of Entertainment Weekly after the finale, which was posted on its website yesterday, she praised Phillip for giving his best throughout the competition especially during their face off last Tuesday night (American time).

She said, “Not that I don’t think I’m not good, but he’s worked hard for it.

“You know, he’s really, really put his heart and soul into it, and he’s pushed through all the health issues, and he’s done it.

“He did it. I’m so happy for him.”

When asked how she was feeling after the finale, the 16-year-old Idol contestant replied, “I’m feeling good. I’m so happy for Phillip and I’m so glad that it’s over. He’s happy that it’s over. It’s great. I’m excited.”

Jessica showed no bitterness at all about not getting the title.

She explained, “You know, we all really wanted to win, but it was never expected. So, we just worked hard, tried our best, and sing our hearts out.”

Prior to the announcement, Jessica and Phillip performed a song that would be their first single in case they win the competition.

Unfortunately, Jessica’s “Change Nothing” was not able to impress the American Idol judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson.

The Idol runner-up also admitted to the show host Ryan Seacrest that the song did not really showcase her talent as a singer.

“That’s definitely not me,” Jessica told Entertainment Weekly.

“I mean, I wanted to get into pop and stuff but not that much, just a sprinkle of it. [Laughs]. I’m more like an urban/R&B kind of singer.”

Did she think it had an effect on the votes?

Other nationalities are turned off by the aggressiveness of Filipinos posting comments in Internet websites. Please lang, bawasan ang sobrang pagka-fantard kasi naaapektuhan ang mga Filipinos leaving in the US. YOu are not very familiar with the American culture so posting something very patriotic about the Philippines may just backfire on Jessica's career. I am pretty sure she appreciates everyone but I don't think it is necessary at this time to specifically thank the Philippines especially because non-US voters announced numerous times how to beat the American Idol voting system.

I really can't believe Filipinos. Todo suporta nga sa kanya, then nung natalo some are insinuating that she's Persona non grata dahil hindi nagpasalamat sa mga Pilipino. Paano niyo naman nalaman? Nakatutok ba kayo sa TV 24/7? If you are going to help, do so without expecting anything in return!

isa pa, i don't think racism is the issue kaya siya nanalo. i believe patas sila ni Phillip Phillips sa chance na maging american idol. wag niyo kasing isipin na Pilipino siya kaya siya natalo, kasi technically she's American and not Filipino...paano kaya siya makakasali sa AMERICAN Idol kung hindi siya american, or at least green card holder?

she was born and raised in chula vista, california...but she recognizes her filipino ancestry. di man siya full-blooded american pero technically american citizen siya. buti nga at naaalala pa rin niya ang Pilipinas kahit kabilang na siya sa isang high-standard society like in US. isa pa mga kababayan, walang masama sa pagiging runner-up ng american idol. sa past seasons, yung mga runner-up ay sumikat din, nagkaroon ng international album at nag-hold ng concerts nila, like David Archuleta, Adam Lambert, Clay Aiken, Katherine McPhee, Lauren Alaina, to name a few... Consider her to be well-known in America and in the international scene.

all jessica's fans have to do is buy her future albums in droves. THAT is success, it's not winning AI and then fading into oblivion like some of the previous winners.

syetedos - agree ako sa yo kung nabasa lang nila ang rules ng botohan only people living in the US ang puede bomoto ke online o tawag yan. Malamang nga di nila kinount ang mga boto na labas sa nasasakupan ng US kaya it did not factor sa votes ni jessica.

you are absolutely right gagaka-noh 19 dinaya daw pero pinoy ang napaka numero unong mandaraya. Imagine boboto sila through all medium available eh di ba pandaraya yun? Sino ba sa pinas ang boboto sa ibang contestants? American Idol is a US show and votes should be coming from the US only not overseas. It is only being shown overseas kasi added revenue din yon para sa producers but not to collect votes from them. Ang di nila alam, yong boto nila di naman binibilang kasi nakikita naman na coming from overseas. Hay pinoy.

It was reported, 'Jessica showed no bitterness at all about not getting the title'. Sorry, just pointing out my observation.

A 16 year old Jessica is truly an American by accepting defeat gracefully...

Most Americans are patriotic and support the troops at big plus iyon kay Jessica.
