Narito ang pahayag ni deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte, “I understand Undersecretary [Manolo] Quezon spoke to them last week and ang sabi po ng NCCA is that Dolphy has been deemed nominated for the National Artist award. They will be receiving other nominations.

"The NCCA has gotten clearance from the Office of the Solicitor General to proceed with the screening and the vetting of nominees for National Artist for 2012.”

"Obviously, the President thinks very highly of Mang Dolphy. However, we have stated in the past [that] we do not want to politicize the process. We do not want to make any prejudgments, and magsasalita na lang po tayo kapag nakapagbigay na po ng shortlist ang NCCA for the award,” ayon pa kay Valte.

What's the use?Dolphy is gone. Tapos ngayon idineklara pa nila ang July 13th as a National Remembrance Day para kay Mang Dolphy. It's Absurd!!!It's really an exaggeration!!!Hindi na talaga ako makapaniwala.

    25. BERNARD2010, Why blame the government? lolz Dahil maysakit na si Mang Dolphy, do you want the Aquino gov't to coerce and force the NCCA to award him the National Artist? Mas bulok yan pag ginawa nila yan. Mang Dolphy body may have been taken from us but his spirit lives on. I'm sure he is watching us from heaven.

I am blaming the Gov't since matagal ng debate yan eh.If you noticed biglang bigla naging mabilis agad ang confirmation na National Artist na si Idol Dolphy.Di ba bulok nga yon?Imagine in just a week naipasa na agad without any hazzle. We really miss Mang Dolphy.Parte na sya ng buhay ko.At ang pag declare ni PnoY sa National Remembrance Day?I tell you that in years time magiging malaking issue ito!I am saying para kaseng hinahaluan nila ng business ang pagkamatay ni Idol.Which i make me angry.

On a lighter note, ang ganda ganda ni Miss Zsa Zsa Padilla sa necrological service. Kahit umiiyak and with not so much make up, ang ganda paren. The necrological service for Dolphy is one of the best I've seen. My heart and prayers goes out to Dolphy's family especially ZsaZsa and all his children in this most difficult time.

Cecile Guidote Alvarez should be embarrassed for accepting the National Artist award alongside Carlo Caparas. Nicanor Tiongson is a hypocrite if he is disturbed by the gay roles in Dolphy's movies. I think think Tiongson didnt want gay people being stereo typed as screaming queens. Look, TIongson - not all gay people were part of the academe in the 70s. In the late 70s and 80s in UP, most of your students knew what you were - and they respected and accepted you. You need to get off your pedestal and be honest - about yourself and about what the common tao truly believes as being art and entertainment. At the end of the day - there is a common tao in each of us, di ba?

According to National Artist Lumbrera, “It was Cecile Guidote-Alvarez, as executive director of the NCCA, who had insisted on the President’s right to add names that were not discussed in the committee.” Calling the situation "outrageous", he said that: “She should have not allowed herself to be named as national artist. She’s close to the President. Nobody in the committee thought that she deserved to be named." Alvarez heads the NCAA secretariat that receives nominations for national artists.

Dolphy's GREAT LEGACY deserves a lot better than shameless self serving Politicians trying to capitalize on his popularity! Obviously in preparation for next years elections? tsk, tsk, tsk! If Dolphy is truly deserving to be hailed a National Artist, then this spirited over the top power tripping campaign by this politicians would be unnecessary! With or without the National Artist Award, PIDOL'S legacy and significant contributions to the Philippine Culture and Arts has long been secured! By NOT DOING AN ARROYO and by NOT INFLUENCING the NCCA, Pres. Benigno Aquino has preserved its integrity and saved it from sinking yet to another lower level patronage!

Exactly. I think they should let it be. Ok lang naman na magkaroon ng posthumous award si Dolphy, even if it's 10 yrs from now. No award or title would change how Filipinos appreciate Mr. Dolphy.

Kaya nga politics should never get involved in the selection process or it will forever corrupt the system.

Tama naman yng professor, when he did the selection. There were certain rules that he need to follow. He was a national artist for all filipino, regardless kung may title or wala.

i am a huge, huge fan of Mang Dolphy and was deeply saddened with his death but the National Artist Recognition should not be about popularity or sympathy or being influential. This is one of main reasons why most major award giving bodies in Philippine showbusiness has lost its credibility.

Kudos to the President for not using his power and influence to get iinvolve for the selection of the National Artist. Mawawala ang kredibilidad at respectability ng award giving body if Malacanang caves in to the pressure because maraming kaibiganang nominee in high places. Haaay, tanggalin nayang ugaling palakasan.
