Part 5. Three more blog sites allegedly plagiarized by Senator Tito Sotto

Canada-based Filipino novelist Miguel Syjuco (not in photo) found three blogs which he claimed were also plagiarized by Senator Tito Sotto (in photo) for the second part of the latter's Senate speech against the RH Bill earlier this week.

(CLICK HERE to read related article.)

“I've gone just through Tito Sotto's second speech and discovered he lifted, verbatim, from three sources easily found online,” sabi ni Syjuco.

Sinabi rin ni Syjuco: “I found three instances of verbatim plagiarism. And all I had to do was plug in the English chunks of his speech into Google.”

1. Senator Sotto’s speech:

“Sanger was so intent on reducing family size that she seemed to not stop even at abortion. Many believe that under the right circumstances, Sanger would have condoned infanticide. Indeed she wrote in her book Woman and the New Race: ‘The most merciful thing that a large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.’

“This comes from the woman who formed the philosophical base for IPPF.

“But there was even a darker side to Margaret Sanger: a side that IPPF people try to cover up or explain away. That was her belief in ‘eugenics.’ Eugenics is defined as ‘the application of the laws of hereditary to physical and mental improvement, especially of the human race.’”

“Re-imaging Life and Family: The Global Scandal” by Marlon Ramirez on talkingsense.multiply.com, September 2008:

“…Sanger was so intent on reducing family size that she seemed to not stop even at abortion. Many believe that, under the right circumstances, Sanger would have condoned infanticide. Indeed, she wrote in her book Woman And the New Race: ‘The most merciful thing that the large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.’ This comes from the woman who formed the philosophical base for Planned Parenthood. You can also see that her interest in birth control was not just due to some humane concern for health of women (which birth control doesn’t help anyway), but was driven in part by her desire to encourage women to engage in sex without having children.

“But there was another side of Margaret Sanger; a side that Planned Parenthood people try to cover up or explain away. That was her belief in eugenics. Eugenics is defined as ‘the application of the laws of heredity to physical and mental improvement, especially of the human race.’ To Sanger this meant the systematic elimination (through birth control, including abortion) of all those people she and her cohorts considered to be of ‘dysgenic stock’ in order to create a race of superior intellectuals.”

2. Senator Sotto’s speech:

“The two activists met in December of 1936 when Sanger traveled to India to speak with Gandhi about birth control, population and the plight of women in India. At that time, Sanger staunchly advocated the global use of artificial contraceptives and, in order to make the acceptance of such contraceptives easier to the Indian populace, sought to make Gandhi an ally. While Sanger claimed she merely wanted to pay her respects and give a personal tribute to Gandhi, she coveted nothing less than his endorsement of the widespread use of artificial birth control methods. Gandhi firmly stood by his belief that the spiritual bonds of marriage are strengthened by sexual abstinence. He thus completely rejected Sanger's plea for contraception as a tool to control population growth, fearing it would lead to an increase in non-procreative sex, which he viewed as immoral lust.

This is why politicians shouldn't be doing movies and tv shows, sayang ang oras na dapat they should be investing in studying and they should focus on helping the country in it's progress. Do we ever ask ourselves why they're entering politics in the first place? The people have a right to be informed, know their options and make decisions through the RH Bill. O, sarili kong words yan, galing sa puso.

This is so close to a situation where you copy the answers of a classmate in the written exam and copying everything including the name of your classmate. Simply stated it is a form of cheating.

This is no surprise!! This is the very reason why we should not vote for showbiz people, stand-up comedians, womanizers, etc., etc. It is very clear to see that they have no place in the senate let alone as leaders of the country. Their brains do not have the ability to think of original ideas to bring to the table. They have to steal ideas from others. Wake up Filipinos, our country needs your power to change the direction it has long been traveling. The Philippines is the least progressive among other Asian countries. Japan, China, Korea, India, Malaysia and Singapore are recognized globally by America and Europe. It is so sad to see all these countries had a representative to the recent Olympics in London and the Philippines did not have even one. REALLY SAD FOR THE PHILIPPINES.

we had representatives, but we didn't qualify for a medal. One of our skeet shooters accidentally shot himself in the foot. Lumalaban naman tayo, wala lang talagang support from the government

In late 70's the Philippines was on its road to economic recovery, i.e., rice sufficiency was attained and there was a time that we had to export some of them. Several infrastructures were built, i.e., Philippine Heart Center, Lung Center, Cultural Center, etc. Philippines headed the establishment of ASEAN composed of our neighbouring countries. Our country was slowly starting to be economically independent during that period with Singapore tailing us. We all know what happened, but at least thanks to our OFWs' contributions that help keep our economy survive the current crisis.

Unlike mr. Senator na nag assign lang sa staff nya to research for him at igawa sya ng speech. I wonderwho is this person who made his speech, si ciara daw ba? This will serve as a lesson to all these politicians, do your homework.

it is a big deal, why? because this is a significant debate that will affect the country. Kung puro kinopya lang lahat, how does that reflect on his conviction and credibility?

the debate is about RH BILL and not about his credibility and for me it doesn't matter at all if he copied or not his speech its the content, if it has explained his stand on RH BILL though i am PRO RH bill and JAM2012 excuse me I am not Ciara im just an ordinary citizen who choose not to dramatized life and circumstances! And of course i believed you are some sort of genuis right?

I respect your opinion if you don't care about whether he copies his speech. For me it's like somebody copying your essay in school word for word to explain his stand on something. And hindi naman pinapahiya si Sotto deliberately, he did it to himself. It is natural for people trying to understand the RH Bill to read and then research the facts based on his speech and ito nga ang lumabas. With regards to your question, oo syempre nakakahiya yung nag copy. He did this to himself.
    Xray
    08/18/2012 | 04:38 AM
yes it MATTERS because if his stand on the RH bill is copied then you wonder what his OWN stand is if he needed somebody else's opinion to speak his mind. The debate is about the RH bill but what good will the debate do if one's stand about it is not at all his won. Besides, plagiarism, IS serious no matter how you look at it.

For short, do your homework, do not just depend on your staff BLINDLY, ikaw ang namumuno eh, dapat alam mo ang mga nangyayari sa opisina mo. Hindi yung basta a-attend lang sa meeting, magsasalita, iiyak, papalakpak, tatawa tapos uuwi na sa bahay and then tomorrow is another day doing the same mindless routine.

The ghost writer is off the hook once it is approved by the Chief of Staff or anyone in charge for submission to the Senator.
