Tom Cruise has paid tribute to Top Gun director Tony Scott.

The movie director jumped to his death from Vincent Thomas Bridge into the Los Angeles Harbor, and Tom is remembering his former colleague fondly.

He said: "Tony was my dear friend and I will really miss him."

The actor—whom Scott, 68, directed in the lead role of 1986's Top Gun and in the 1990's Days of Thunder—said his mark on the film industry cannot be measured.

He added in a statement website UsMagazine.com: "He was a creative visionary whose mark on film is immeasurable. My deepest sorrow and thoughts are with his family at this time."

The brother of Gladiator and Prometheus director Ridley Scott, 74, Tony is said to have climbed a fence on the bridge and leapt to his death on Sunday (August 19) at around 12.30 p.m.
