Film critics and entertainment journalists, online bloggers, and even tweeters from different parts of the world—who are currently in Venice, Italy, as observers and participants at the ongoing 69th Venice International Film Festival—have continuously heaped praises for the Philippine film entry, Sinapupunan (Thy Womb).

The Brillante Mendoza film is among the 18 films from all over the world vying for the prestigious Golden Lion Award for Best Picture.

Thy Womb is topbilled by Nora Aunor with Bembol Roco, Lovi Poe, and Mercedes Cabral. It is written by Henry Burgos.

Thy Womb tells of a Badjao couple: Shaleha Sarail (Nora), a midwife, and her husband, Bangas An (Bembol), who both had to deal with Shaleha's sterility; and a young fertile woman, Mercila (Lovi), who Bangas An took for a  second wife, with Shaleha's consent, in the couple's desire to have Bangas An sire his own child.

As of Friday, September 7, karamihan ay positive reviews ang natamo ng Thy Womb at ng bidang aktres na si Nora mula sa mga kritiko at film enthusiasts. 

Kasunod ito ng matagumpay na red carpet gala premiere ng Thy Womb noong Huwebes ng gabi, September 6, sa Palazzo del Cinema (Sala Grande), kung saan binigyan ng standing ovation ang Philippine delegation.

Um-attend din sa gala premiere ng Thy Womb ang mismong festival director na si Alberto Barbera.

"BRAVO!" Tuwang tuwa ang buong delegasyon ng Pilipinas sa naging pagtanggap ng mga manonood na banyaga sa ating pelikula.

"Kapag nagustuhan ng mga Italyano ang movie mo, magtatayuan sila at magpapalakpakan, sabay sigaw ng 'Bravo!’"

Nasabi ito ni Direk Brillante sa mga kasamang nasa Venice bago magsimula ang gala premiere. At ganun nga ang nangyari, kaya masaya silang lahat.

"Grabeng response! Overwhelming!" banggit din ni Larry Castillo, line producer ng Thy Womb, sa PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

Bukod sa parangal para sa Best Picture at Best Director, maraming avid followers ni Nora ang nagnanais na mapanalunan ng Superstar ang prestihiyosong Volpi Cup, na katumbas na parangal ng Best Actress.

Ngayong September 8 ng gabi (September 9 ng madaling-araw sa Pilipinas) malalaman ang mga nagwagi sa 69th Venice Filmfest.

Gayunman, may nauna nang parangal na naigawad sa Philippine superstar.

At press time, napaulat ang pananalo ni Nora ng Bisato d'Oro Award, mula sa isang independent award-giving body sa Venice, para sa kanyang pagganap sa Thy Womb.

Mula ito sa Premio Della Critica Indipendente na binubuo ng mga independent film critics bilang mga hurado.

Si Nora ang unang Pilipinang aktres na nanalo ng naturang parangal.

ACCLAIMED. Maaaring hindi iniisip kapwa nina Direk Brillante at Nora ang posibleng chances ng pelikula at ni Nora mismo na manalo, pero maraming ulat sa news blogsites, sa iba't ibang lengguwahe, ang nagbibigay ng kaukulang papuri sa Thy Womb at sa aktres.

Halimbawa nito ang pahayag ng Italian critic na si Paola Piacenza: "Una candidatura certa, al Leone e, per la straordinaria attrice Nora Aunor, alla Copa Volpi!"
