After last Sunday's boxing match between the WBO Welterweight Champion and Saranggani Province Congressman Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and Mexican WBA Lightweight Champion Juan Manuel Marquez, a lot of boxing fans complained on how Pacman did not perform well and how good Marquez was on countering his opponent.
There were even fans (mostly fans of Marquez and a majority, Mexicans, of course) who protested the unanimous judges' decision in favor of the Filipino champion. Some even said Marquez was robbed of his win in his third fight against Pacquiao.
There were those, however, who are more observant and more keen on details during the fight, and saw Marquez's strategy on how he fought Pacman.
This YouTube video, which has gone viral through the video sharing website and in Facebook accounts, showed Marquez stepping on Manny's foot numerous times during their fight.
In boxing, a boxer whose foot is pinned down cannot move well. If a boxer cannot move well, he or she will not be able to avoid the punches thrown at him or her. This is called the foot stopper trick.
Marquez defenders are quick to counter that it is common for orthodox fighters (right handed boxers like Marquez) to step on the foot of southpaw fighters (lefties, just like Pacquiao). That, in the heat of the action, boxers really sometimes, unintentionally, step on each others' foot.
Watch this video and decide for yourself: Was Marquez stepping on Pacquiao's foot unintentional or did he really use the "foot stopper trick" in his attempt to beat Pacquiao?
