In celebration of the U.S. Memorial Day, Jessica Sanchez was invited to sing at the National Memorial Day Concert held at the west lawn of the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., last Sunday, May 27.
Memorial Day is an annual U.S. federal holiday celebrated every last Monday of May. It is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving the United States Armed Forces.
By the early 20th century, Memorial Day was an occasion for more general expressions of memory, as people visited the graves of their deceased relatives in church cemeteries, whether they had served in the military or not. It also became a long weekend increasingly devoted to shopping, family gatherings, fireworks, trips to the beach, and national media events (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memorial_Day).
Jessica performed three songs in the concert: "The Star Spangled Banner" at the start of the concert, "The Prayer" at the middle, and "God Bless America."
Other artists who performed in this concert were American Idol Season5 fourth place Daughtry, Natalie Cole, country singer Tracy Adkins, and renowned tenor Russel Watson. Criminal Minds's Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise hosted the show.
