Today at 9am, global news channel CNN is going to show the YouTube sensation Dancing Inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center with Will Devaughn and Michael Jackson's longtime choreographer Travis Payne paying tribute to the King of Pop.
This is in connection with the worldwide release of Jacko's This Is It DVD.
Led by Payne and dancers Daniel Celebre and Dreis Reid, the 1,200 inmates wearing stark black “This is it” tops and orange prison pants perform “The Drill” to the tune of MJ's "They Don’t Care About Us."
Sony Entertainment uploaded the video on YouTube yesterday. Warden Tyron Garcia opens by commanding participants to start. In rectangle formation, Travis starts the dance with a group of dancers. Moving forward, the two phalanxes of prisoners form one group at their back.
Will marches in holding the huge placard showing the black and white photo of Martin Luther King. They form the peace emblem towards the end.
Travis and his crew spent two days last week at the maximum security prison to teach the Dancing Inmates to perform “The Drill” and to record it. Will went to Cebu from Jan. 17 to 20 to record the few seconds pivotal march but does not dance with the group.
