Local music channel MYX
once again gathered music fans to celebrate the 2008 MYX Mo! event. This year's festival was held at the SM Mall of Asia
Concert Grounds in Pasay City last November 6. Around 50 artists participated and
entertained the crowd through diverse genres ranging from rock, pop and even
hip hop. Some of those who performed were Rico Blanco, Hale, Sandwich,
Kamikazee, Christian Bautista, Pupil, Billy Crawford, Nina, Pedicab, Kjwan,
Itchyworms, Gloc 9, and Bamboo.

On
hand to lead the big event were MYX VJs (from left) Iya Villania, Luis
Manzano, and Nikki Gil.
People observed that this year's MYX Mo! was more organized than before.
Luis shared, "Napansin ko, we made it more special in the sense na we gave
away tickets. We want everybody to enjoy so now we made sure that everyone and
everything is more secure so everyone has a lot more fun," said Luis to PEP
(Philippine Entertainment Portal).
Miguel
Escueta and Julianne were part of Disney's Camp
Rock official soundtrack. The two performed an acoustic version of "This Is
Me" on the said album. Miguel and Julianne are artists of MCA Music Inc.
As
VJs tasked to host the event, Luis—who is joined in this picture by fellow
jock Nikki Gil—enthused that the MYX Mo! atmosphere is one of brotherhood
and camaraderie.
"Definitely
sa backstage, it's one of those moments na bago sila sumalang, e
nagkaka-kumustahan kami dun sa mga kilala namin, at the same time it's a time to
meet new people dahil alam natin napaka-busy ng mga artists the same way na we are
very, very busy, so it's one of those chances na nag-uusap kami sa backstage,
nagkukulitan," revealed Luis.
Chino
Lui Pio (in photo) is the newest addition to the growing MYX family. Chino, who is the
brother of Hale frontman Champ Lui Pio, is one of the four winners of the MYX VJ Search for 2008. Robi Domingo, Monica Yncierto, and Bianca Roque were the other winners of the competition.
Cueshe
vocalist Jay Justiniani thanked MYX for always inviting them to perform annually for MYX Mo! "Pang apat na namin so since we got here in Manila palagi kaming
ini-invite ng MYX so thank you MYX," said Jay.
Christian
Bautista admitted feeling anxious before performing in front of a predominantly rock n'
roll fans. Said the young balladeer: "Medyo kinabahan ako actually bago ako
sumampa pero nung paglabas ko tapos narinig ko ‘yong audience reaction sabi ko
okay naman pala, e, so kumalma na ko."
The
Bloomfields donned their Yuletide uniform. The band members—(left to right)
Lakan Hila, Rocky Collado, Louie Poco, Pepe Lozano and Jay Jay Lozano—are
currently busy promoting their Christmas album titled Pasko Natin under EMI
Music Philippines.
Former
Orange & Lemons and now Kenyo frontman McCoy Fundales personally dropped by
to catch up with fellow musicians. Kenyo was not listed to perform that night
as they just arrived from the United States where they did several gigs.
Ex-Eraserheads
drummer and now Sandwich vocalist Raimund Marasigan demonstrates his ease
in performing before a huge crowd as he struts and sings in true frontman
fashion.
MYX
Mo! 2008 served as former Rivermaya chief Rico Blanco's podium in announcing his
big return to the music scene, this time as a solo artist. The prolific
songsmith dished out an intense performance of his first single, "Yugto,"
followed by the new-wave sound, "Say Forever."
Chicosci
frontman Miggy Chavez proved that pink is the new 'black' in rock. Aside from the
straightforward lyrics, Chicosci members are widely known for their fashion sense, which
is both lauded and criticized by some quarters.
(From left) Omnie Saroca, Roll Martinez, Champ Lui Pio and
Sheldon Gellada—collectively known as Hale—certainly made up for lost time by
being active in the music scene after taking a leave for almost a year.
Raising
the evening's temperature even more were the Kitty Girls. The all-girl singing
group was formed in April 2007 and since then they have been dubbed the Philippine
version of the international pop group The Pussycat Dolls.
The
Soul Siren Nina tamed even the wildest beast that night through her beautiful
voice, which temporarily served as a welcome breather from the ear-splitting music
delivered by the rock bands. Nina performed "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing," a rock
ballad popularized by the legendary American group Aerosmith.
In
an interview with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) a few months back, the
hard-rocking quintet Kjwan revealed their collective desire to write more
accessible songs to reach a wider market. The Marc Abaya-led band is currently
working on their third album. Kjwan's last album titled 2 Step Marv was released in 2006.
Gloc-9's
remarkable performance didn't need backup that
evening. Once again he dazzled the crowd with his fast-rapping skills dished
out with ease and style.
As
expected, Jay Contreras of the punk novelty band Kamikazee had the crowd,
the bouncers and the security people up on their toes the moment he stepped off the main stage to go near the enthusiastic fans.
Yael
Yuzon of Sponge Cola performed the band's hit single "Pasubali" before
launching into their latest single "Puso," taken from the quartet's eponymous third
album. "Puso" was used as the official theme song of the recently concluded 71st
UAAP season.
Chito
Miranda and the gang of Parokya Ni Edgar decided to go for an old hit to open
their set. The band performed "Buloy"—the song that introduced them to the
public back in 1996 and was included in their debut record playfully titled Khangkhungkherrnitz.
Parokya Ni Edgar's
co-vocalist Vinci Montaner joined Chito in singing the band's 2003 hit, "The
Yes Yes Show," a tongue-in-cheek song that touches on the subject of jealousy among bandmates.
Parokya Ni Edgar summoned
the boys of Kamikazee in performing the hard-rock number, "The Ordertaker"—a parody of the songs "Chop Suey" and "Toxicity" by the
Armenian-American band, System of a Down. Here, Kamikazee's Jay Contreras sings
to accompany Parokya Ni Edgar's Chito Miranda and Vinci Montaner.
