After screening 80 films from 30 countries, the 11th Cinemanila International Film Festival had its culminating event through an awarding ceremony held last October 23, 2009 at the NBC Tent, Taguig
City. This year's theme was "Moving Forward with Moving Images."
Surprise guest Arnel Pineda handed the microphone to Tessa Prieto-Valdes during his performance that night. The Filipino vocalist of American band Journey will perform with Katy Perry in her November 14 concert at the SM Mall of Asia concert grounds.
In a brief interview backstage, Arnel told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) that he is back in the Philippines after touring with Journey for the past three years.
Che Ramos was one of the stars of the Digital Lokal entry Beerhouse. She also played the muse in the Pangasinense film Anacbanua, which bagged the Lino Grand Prize and the Best Director plum for Christopher Gozum.

American scriptwriter-director Paul Schrader told the audience that night: "It is now so easy to make movies, economically, with digital
filmmaking, and editing through a laptop. What we see is a blossoming
of individual films that were being inhibited by the commercial system
during the last hundred years."
National Artist for Film Eddie Romero introduced the recipient of this year's Lifetime Achivement Award, distinguished screenwriter-director Paul Schrader. He was joined by festival co-chair Kaye Tinga.
Brillante Mendoza served as the jury head of Cinemanila's main competition. He told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) that the judges only spent 15 minutes discussing this year's winners since they all had the same choices.
Cinemanila festival founding director Amable "Tikoy" Aguiluz VI told the audience that this film fest pays tribute to Filipino masters of film: Lino Brocka and Ishmael Bernal. "We remember the past because we remember their spirit. And their spirit lasts forever."
Taguig mayor Freddie Tinga pointed out that during the 10-day film festival, "art was being imitated by life. Movies allow us to take a look at our past, and get a glimpse of the future."

Remton Zuasola, the director of To Siomai Love, bagged the two awards in the Young Cinema category: the Ishmael Bernal Award for Young Cinema and Best Short Film. He cheered: "Mabuhay ang Cebuano cinema!"
This year marks the first time that a film festival for machinima took place in the Philippines. Machinima--a portmanteau of machine cinema--refers to movies created through the use of video games.
