ABS-CBN held a blessing and dedication ceremony of the Eugenio Lopez Jr. Communication Center (ELJCC) on November 4, 2010, 10 years since it was built.
The date also marked the 82nd birthday of the late Eugenio "Geny" Lopez Jr., after whom the 15-story building is named.
There were two failed attempts to dedicate the building in the past, said ABS-CBN chairman and CEO Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III in his speech. Perhaps it was fated, he mused, "that we have President Aquino himself to honor this dedication ceremony."
"Fated" may be right. It was the late President Corazon Aquino, PNoy's mother, who ordered the return of ABS-CBN to the Lopezes. Before her, President Ferdinand Marcos, now also deceased, had sequestered the property when he declared martial law in 1972.
