PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) visits The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition camp at
Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in General
Trias, Cavite.
The show will start airing May 30 on ABS-CBN Primetimebida.

The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition is the local adaptation of the popular American reality show.
It centers on overweight contestants who will undergo rigorous training, physical and emotional challenges in order to lose weight.
The person with the highest percentage of weight loss at the end of the show will receive P1M cash prize and a condo unit.

One of the clubhouses in Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club was turned into a house for the 12 participants, who will be called "Bigating Pinoy."
The house is furnished, of course, with a complete set of gym equipment, courtesy of one of the leading fitness centers in the country.

The whole area, including this living room, is surrounded by cameras, just like ABS-CBN's other reality show Pinoy Big Brother.

According to The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition program manager Reily Santiago, the contestants will follow a very strict diet inside the house.

Part of the challenge for the contestants is preparing their own "healthy" meal. They will be guided by a nutritionist.
Everything in the kitchen consists of healthy products that the participants can use in cooking, including the fresh herbs (inset) in one corner of the kitchen.

To make sure that everyone is safe, the staff added a clinic inside the house for emergencies. A nurse and a doctor will be on standby to constantly monitor the health status of the contestants.

Program manager Reily Santiago (in gray shirt, standing) explains to invited media the mechanics of the game.
For the elimination, two teams go through "weigh in" every week. The team with the highest percentage of weight loss is safe from elimination. Members of the losing team will each vote who they want to eliminate.
A contestant who's kicked out must continue to lose weight while at home. In the grand finals, he/she will still get a chance to win the cash prize if he/she becomes the biggest loser while outside the camp.

Renowned nutritionist Nadine Tengco will teach contestants proper nutrition and right preparation of food.

The following are the foods that may or may not be healthy for us.
1. Contrary to belief, white sugar and brown sugar are the same in calorie content. Muscovado is better because it's unrefined and has lower glycemic index.
2. Burgers and french fries, and chicken lauriat are two of the most common—and unhealthy—meals that Pinoys eat when dining out.
3. Difference between a Pinoy plate and a plate with proper nutrition: The left shows how much Pinoys love rice. While the plate on the right shows the proper proportion of food that we should eat—1/4 rice, 1/4 meat, and 1/2 vegetables.
4. Never greet the morning with a cigarette and coffee only. Nutritionists always remind us never to skip breakfast, which is the most important meal of the day.

Professional fitness trainer Chinggay Estrada flew all the way from Las Vegas to train the Red team in The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition.

Sports-medicine specialist Jim Saret took time out in training elite athletes to teach the Blue team proper workout without having to go to the gym.

During the set visit, Chinggay (not in photo) and Jim taught PEP and other members of the media some of the basic workout exercises, which they practised with the 12 Bigating Pinoys.

Jim and Chinggay believe that the viewers would be inspired by the personal stories of the contestants, aside from getting tips on losing weight.
Also, Chinggay said that The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition, "is like a wake up call for a lot of people. And it's a
problem or an issue that needs to be addressed as early as now dito sa
Pilipinas, the obesity."
