Juday was still in the U.S. when we shot this pre-makeover look of her Quezon City home. Her highly cooperative mom, Carol Santos, regaled us with inside information about Juday:

"Pag nalibre naman ang schedule nyan, nasa kuwarto lang 'yan lagi, nagbabawi ng tulog. Pero lahat ng gamit dito, siya pa rin ang nagde-decide. Like 'yang sofa, binili nya 'yan—made-to-order—sa sister ni Rica Peralejo. 'Yong table, gusto nya talaga wood."

The altar is the only area we have not touched. "Kasi—especially si Virgin of Manaoag—diyan talaga sila naka-enthrone," explains Mommy Carol. "Hindi siya puwedeng magalaw diyan." (The Virgin of Manaoag is clothed in blue.)

Every Christmas, the Santoses have a Mass celebrated at this altar. "Ibe-bless siya ulit," she explains. Thanksgiving Mass na rin naming pamilya 'yon."

This area is Juday and Mommy Carol's last stop before leaving the house. They never fail to pray here before going out.

Here, Juday's midnight-blue wall has not been painted over, but the white drapery has been changed to a silvery fabric.

The only major addition is the image of the Santo Nino lying in a manger, which used to be the coffee table's centerpiece.

The dining area, our stylist observed, was clearly the family room. Indeed, then and now, the members of the Santos family habitually converge on the dining area. This is where they chat, conduct business, make calls, watch TV, receive guests, write, read, play—and, yes, eat.

The makeover gave the blue wall a face-lift.

Gwyn Guanzon, Real Living magazine's style editor, explains: "Kasi nga family area ito, diyan ko inilagay ang karamihan sa mga framed photos nila. Ang ganda ng original frames, silver pa ang kulay na bagay sa pagka-blue ng wall."

Twenty calla lilies from Dangwa—the favorite spot on Laong Laan Street in Manila for buying lovely, inexpensive flowers of many varieties—provide the accent, along with Mommy Carol's blue china and Juday's home-interior books, taken from the shelf on the second-floor stair landing. The clear glass vase is Juday's.

The 2x6-foot mirror, framed in four-inch-thick hard wood, is now the dominant piece in the newly painted wall, which was previously occupied by the family's framed photographs. The mirror not only reflects the other portions of the house but also the romatic dim light emanating from the tan-clored table lamp, thus creating the illusion that there are two lamps.
