"My son" are the first words Mrs. Yan utters when we enter the living room. She points to this handsome portrait of the son she lost on March 29, 2002. Behind her is the spare room that currently serves as an office of the Yan couple.

The house, in clean colors of white and green, measures around 160 square meters. The lot itself, including an empty space beside the house for a garden, measures 295 square meters.

Mrs. Yan and Cocoy Cordoba, her interior designer and friend of 20 years. "Of all the projects I've done, this must be the most labor of love!" Cocoy declares.

A set of rattan chairs, matched with a naturally red wooden table bought right in Baguio, complete the country look for the living room. Serving as the centerpiece on the wall is a rug which was locally made for only P2,000.

No divider separates the dining area from the living room, which has walls of 12-inch pine wood imported from Germany. Pergo laminate was temporarily used for flooring, but Cocoy says "it's only staying for a year."

Of all the areas in their house in Baguio, the veranda is undoubtedly Mrs. Yan's favorite. Cocoy had one of its walls made up of three shades of faux brick stones, which actually consisted of cement baked to look like stones. From the veranda, one can see the rest of the compound and beyond.

Another huge portrait of Rico is found in his parents' bedroom. Mrs. Yan says this portrait of Rico is her husband's favorite.

Sunlight streams through the windows that surround the dining area. The sheer curtains and the bright tangerine color of the walls add to the room's relaxed ambiance. A day before the YES! shoot, interior designer Cocoy Cordoba meticulously prepared the dining table for picture-taking, so that Mr. Yan was forced to eat elsewhere!

Two doors—one from the couple's bedroom, the other from the corridor—lead to this very spacious bathroom. The room's blue-and-green combination is carried over to the tiles, sink, and toilet bowl. Just to prove that his budget was very tight, Cocoy laughingly shows off the price tag for the simple painting on the wall: P250!

This was to be Rico Yan's bedroom.

On the other side of the couple's bedroom is the entertainment area, where Cocoy placed a made-to-order rug from Baguio. The colors of the rug were made to match the shades of the room.

For Mr. and Mrs. Yan's bedroom wall, Cocoy decided to mix various shades of lavender, blue gray, and dark blue colors. He finished painting this room and the guest room in just three days! Again, he placed a mural, with a different design, on the right side of the bed.

Sita Yan used to be very active in the Rico Yan Youth Foundation, but has decided to take time off from the foundation in order to attend to other matters. Nevertheless, she declares, "I'm mentally not tired yet."
