Dolphy was in the films Sampung Labuyo (1969), Golpe De Gulat (1969), Jack and Jill and John (1975), War Kami ng Misis Ko (1977), also Ang Banal Ang Ganid at ang Pusakal (1976) with son Dolphy Jr.

Dolphy Jr., or Rodolfo Jr., is the King's son with Engracia Dominguez.  

Gracia and Dolphy met during a stage show. In a skit, she  was a still portrait to whom Dolphy sang "Mona Lisa." Gracia and the Comedy King have five children: Manny Boy, Salud, Freddie, Edgar and Rolly.

Rolly Quizon was in most of Dolphy's films, including the John en Marsha TV series turned film. The Dolphy-Rolly films include Biyenan Ko Ang Aking Anak (1974), Kisame Street (1976), Jack and Jill of the Third World (1978), Dancing Master (1981) and My Heart Belongs to Daddy (1982).

John en Marsha was a long-running sitcom that started in 1971. The series starred Dolphy and Nida Blanca as  Marsha, with Rolly, Maricel Soriano, and Atong Redillas. The sitcom was made into a movie nine times: John en Marsha sa Pelikula (1974), John en Marsha Part Two sa Amerika (1975), John en Marsha '77 (1977), John en Marsha '80 (1980), Da Best of John en Marsha (1983), Da Best of John en Marsha 2 (1984), John en Marsha '85 sa Probinsya (1985), John en Marsha '86 T. N. T. sa Amerika (1986), John en Marsha Ngayong '91 (1991).

Dolphy was first in a movie with Eric Quizon in Bata Batuta (1987). Father and son also starred together in My Bugoy Goes to Congress (1983), My Darling Domestic (1989), Espadang Patpat (1990), also in Home Sic Home (1995).

Eric Quizon is Dolphy's son with actress Baby Smith, or  Pamela Ponti, whom Dolphy met when she was 17 and he, 36. Apart from Eric, their children are  Ronaldo, Madonna, and Jeffrey.

Vandolph, Dolphy's son with actress Alma Moreno, was first introduced in showbiz in the King's 1986 film, Balimbing. Vandolph eventually starred in other movies: Father en Son (1995), Home Along Da Riles Da Movie (1993), originally a family comedy sitcom; Home Along Da Riles 2 (1994), and Tataynic (1998).

Dolphy did not always play father to his actor-children in the movies. In the 2000 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Markova, Jeffrey Quizon, Eric Quizon, and Dolphy all played the character of Walter Dempster Jr., a.k.a. Walterina, the last surviving "comfort gay" of World War II.

Jeffrey portrayed the young Markova. Eric's role was the middle-age Markova. Dolphy was Markova in his senior years.

In some films, Dolphy starred with more than one of his kids. The Goodfather (1975) includes Dolphy Jr., Manny Boy, Sahlee, Edgar and Freddie Quizon. In Father en Son (1995), Jeffrey and Boy2 Quizon were in the cast.
